A Views-on-Sea by the HR Advisory and Wellbeing Team

“Improving our mental health in the workplace…”

HR actively promote the importance of looking after our physical and mental wellbeing at work. But how do you balance this with a busy job and working in different ways?

With the implementation of the new Work Smart classifications at the council, the HR Advisory and Wellbeing team have been working hard to come up with new ways to support each other. Every Thursday, the team do something together. Whether it's a team meeting (generally with snacks), a team lunch (Burrito Thursday is the current favourite from Dub Kitchen) or just a chance to catch up on what is happening in their personal lives, it’s a great way to collaborate and feel connected as a team.

Recently a number of the team have been focusing on our physical health and have been enjoying wellbeing walks at lunchtime. It’s a great way to stop, step away from the desk, stretch and increase your steps for the day, as well as have a chat with your colleagues.?

The team took advantage of the recent nice weather with a wellbeing walk around the local area, where they enjoyed fresh air and the beauty of Churchill Gardens.

What have you been doing to support yourself and your team’s wellbeing in your organisation?

Remember it’s the small things that make a difference: a short walk, a chat with a colleague to find out what’s happening in their lives at present, or lunch together for example.

If you would like to share your ideas, we would love to hear them. Please feel free to share in the comments on this article.

It's great to see how your team integrates wellbeing into everyday activities!? At Emergenetics UK & Ireland, we emphasise the importance of simple, consistent efforts to boost team wellbeing, whether through walks, team lunches, or simply checking in with each other.? These small actions can significantly enhance connection, reduce stress, and improve overall productivity.? How has your team noticed the benefits of these initiatives in terms of team morale and collaboration?

Great to hear about the lunchtime walks; being outside and getting exercise FTW. For me, walking first thing is a great release as is changing where I work (Leigh Library).
