What we are experiencing in the world is an impact of #globalization and it's confluence with media and technology that experts never studied enough to get ahead of the curve.
Our global economy is based on the fundamentals of notional wealth, and in our evolution; through science, socio-cultural and political, we are redefining old norms, all creating much uncertainty for people.
This has created an opportunity for those who can claim and offer certainty, predominantly those with answers based on faith and/or autocratic leadership, and we have had a surge of #populism as a phenomenon rising, one feeding the other. The #Losers_of_Modernization_Theory has an interesting set of hypothesis to explain this phenomenon.
#India in the midst of a socio-cultural renaissance
India was late to the globalization party, and slowly and grudgingly embraced it in its own terms, but slowly got velcroed into the global phenomenon.
What India is going through is a cultural and political renaissance, and in that, the nation harvests fast and strong because India is fertile grounds for faith, spirituality and cast-tribes. That with the population size and limited resources, makes the country very convenient for polarized politics, especially those with "ideological" motives.
With ancestry of over 5000 years of civilization mashups, India interestingly is a fairly new country, only 73 years old, full of people and cultures and religions and languages. Riddled with fault lines, yet have a strong glue of #Being_Indian without knowing to articulate the ingredients of the glue.
What’s tearing India apart will be the very reason for Indians to get closer.

4 年Faheem Ahamed very interesting article and triggers my mind thinking of how technology can act as a middleware between people, defusing polarization instead of funnelling differences. Providing truth instead of fake news.
