The view from EcoSummit-Berlin 2018

Ecosummit is one the events in the year I most look forward to. For starters there is good coffee, good food, a good venue and good networking, into the evening. So much the better this year as the solar powered boat cruises enabled you to see the last of the days sunshine. But of course the event has a purpose, to advance smart green start-ups in Europe, and to that end it's a great event.

Two very long days of presentations, but they really do fly by. Jan Micheal Hess keeps things ticking over nicely, and his passion for the sector is contagious. Let's be honest, we all go to plenty of conferences and events; you could go to one every day somewhere in Europe, and whilst clean energy is the theme, the content and delivery is pretty dry. Not so at EcoSummit. We were blessed over the two days to hear from dozens of start ups, pitching their technologies, and seeking investments. Some really early stage, and some well on their way to Unicorn status, like Sonnen and Thermondo. It's also a stage though for corporate and institutional investors and VC's to pitch their funds, their incubators and cuddly side. It's a nice mix, with 99 speakers in total.

For us at Hyperion it's a perfect home, on many levels. We are still just about a start up. At nearly four years old I think that still applies. We are exclusively active in the cleantech sector, we're passionately driven to play our part in the success of the sector. And we work with many cleantech start-ups and help investors with their portfolio companies. Anyone involved in funding or acquiring businesses knows that the right management team is critical to the company's success. If the management team isn't strong enough the deal or the investment isn't likely to happen. From the start-up point of view talent is equally important. You may have the money, the technology, the passion, but if you don't have the right people doing the right thing at the right time, then you can't execute on your plan. And that is what we do, make sure companies have the best talent available to achieve the best possible results. Of course you expect me to say that, that's why we chose to ask one of our clients, Rupert Newland, CEO of Arenko Group, to speak on our behalf at the Summit. You can see our pitch below.

What was echoed in the mix of companies pitching for investment, is just how innovative and diverse the solutions and needs of the sector are. Yes, E-Mobility is experiencing huge growth at present, energy and battery storage, both in-front and behind the meter, but solar, and wind and renewable heat and energy efficiency are all progressing, The digitalisation of energy and the electrification of transport, at all scales, is dynamic. This is our world, it's what sets us apart from other recruiters, it's why we have the range of clients we do.

A big thank you to Jan and his team at EcoSummit, as we turn our attentions to the Fully Charged Live show at Silvestone, and of course Intersolar/EES/Power2drive in Munich. If you want to catch up at either let me know. The team and I will be easy to spot! In the meantime of course do follow our company Linked In page, and check the latest jobs on our website.

Thanks for your personal review of Ecosummit Berlin 2018 which was our best event so far with 33 sponsors, 99 speakers and 300 participants. Next year it will be our 10 year anniversary!
