Australia and Vietnam celebrated 50 years of relations in 2024 so let's delve into the numbers behind the blossoming relationship, a partnership that has rapidly evolved beyond mere diplomacy and trade to embrace the essence of "Best Friends Forever" (BFF) status.

• Australia is the 7th largest trading partner of Vietnam
• Vietnamese-Australians number 350,000, making it the fifth-largest foreign community in Australia
• 31,000 Vietnamese students and post-graduates studying in Australia
• From 1991 to 2022, bilateral trade has grown rapidly from 60 million USD to 15.7 billion USD
• 600,000 people flew between Australia and Vietnam in 2022 (in 2019 was over a million) flights below

• There are over 80,000 alumni of Australian Universities currently in Vietnam.

And this just in! Today Prime Minister Albanese and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Pham Minh Chính, announced a major upgrade of the Australia – Vietnam relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both #Australia and #Vietnam have committed to continue to deepen the relationship, across several key areas as described in the joint statement. A key area of focus is deepening the bilateral #trade and #investment relationship, to build supply chain resilience and pursue trade diversification to promote economic resilience. This commitment alongside the implementation of the Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 will provide a stronger platform than ever before for business cooperation.
