Video Podcasts on Substack? ??
Hello! ??
Khaby Lame said an effort is important but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference. Creators, this is an important lesson.
On that note, let's quickly go through our weekly round-up of creator economy updates.
In today's Going Solo
Austin Kleon on Storytelling
Perhaps one of the first craft-oriented books any creator picks is that of Austin Kleon! While his?Steal Like An Artist?made him a New York Times Bestselling Author, his practical advice and writings don't just help us keep it real; they also help us go after what we love. After all, he was the one who also asked not to wait until you know who you are to get started.
We're quite stuck on his advice on storytelling. ??
You can also sign up for his?newsletter?for all the latest scoop.
Have You Heard of Miss Excel?
Kat or Miss Excel has simplified Ms Excel for many. She is quite popular on Instagram and TikTok and has been covered by Bloomberg, Forbes, Insider, etc. Kat has trained about 1M+ users, and her Reels on topics like Pivot Table formatting tips or using Excel’s split screen feature make her content relatable and useful.
From offering?free classes?from time and again to immersive courses like Complete Microsoft Office Suite, Ultimate Excel Bundle and more — Kat has pretty much become a household name. And for a reason.
And recently, she has launched a free newsletter where she intends to curate her favorite links on the internet, advice on productivity and career along with tips and how-tos on Ms Office.

Video Podcasts and Paywalls Come to Substack
Substack is easily most independent writers' and creators' favorite blogging or newsletter tool — and we love that they're taking video podcast features a notch up and above.
Just a few days back, they sent out an email saying Substack is for video. What does that mean? Well, Substack fully wants to go the multimedia route, and offer its creators more choice and freedom of expression.
Substack's official announcement states, “As more and more writers wanted to host podcasts, we added increasingly sophisticated podcasting features. Podcasting started to?explode on Substack. Today, some of the leading revenue-earners on the platform are podcast-focused, including? The Fifth Column,?Blocked & Reported, and?MartyrMade.”
This doesn't come as a surprise considering Substack has launched a simple video tool and video streams from Patti Smith, Amanda Palmer, Jenny Walton, etc. As per the new update, Substack plans to double down on video and introduce flexible paywalls for creators to choose which parts of their podcasts to monetize.
