Video / Podcast Segmentation

As I watch the numbers on my counters for listens (Buzzsprout ) and watches (YouTube ), I am fascinated by digging down in to what is going on "in the weeds" of the shows. [This is my wife Trish Sykes 's jam... she loves numbers more than chocolate, and she LOVES chocolate.]

Full Transparency: Behind the Scenes

Let's start with Buzzsprout. My intent here is to simply make it available for audio-only... and since I already am capturing the video & audio together, I can upload the episode with description. There are only 4 episodes live on both platforms, so these numbers of for where we are just under 2-months time.

Show counts and where listened

This is interesting to me. It shows the number of listens per episode and where they were heard. Apple Podcast leads (with 36), then Overcast (with 15) is a smidge over Spotify (with 11).

Apple seems to be the clear winner of airwave distribution among the AI engaged audience. Neat! And mobile devices is the preferred vehicle for engaging. This is true for me too... I tend to be on YouTube with my Mac, and podcasts with AirPod Pros via my iPhone.

Seems a bit low...

The podcast predictor does not figure I am going to do much better with the next episode. Seems I may be trending poorly for audio only listens... So, let's see what is happening with Video.

As of March 9th at 4:30 PM... The revised edits made to Video 1 (interview with Matt Garbutt) has it at:

  • 2.4k views (on a steady climb now)
  • 50.5 hours of watch time
  • +37 subscribers
  • 825 views in the last 48 hours

All of that to say this... I want to proactively learn how to make this better over all. To do that - I went to ChatGPT - since this is A.I. Explore!

Asking Questions of ChatGPT

I approach CGPT in a conversational manner to get the best results. I decided to explore this in 2 different ways. V 3.5 and V 4... To start, he is how I asked my question of CGPT in both.

I have YouTube and BuzzSprout podcast where I talk with other AI creators. On YouTube I can see the actual listen times - how long the average listen time is per episode, how many stay until the end. The Buzzsprout only tells me downloads and where they were downloaded from. Even though YouTube tells me I am better than average, only 3% that start my hour long videos make it all the way to the end. Most stop watching just shy of the 2-minute mark. I saw something recently about using Podcast Sedment Ideas to section off part of the show dedicated to certain topics or activities. The goal is to:

? Reduce listener drop off

??break up blocks of content

? Help switch gears

? Make the podcast more dynamic

The podcast is called AI Creators Collective. It is hosted by me, Brian Sykes. It is an extension of my daily AI lesson on LinkedIn and Instagram called A.I. Explore - where I also have produced 4 books with 10 lessons each including:

? A.I. Explore: Prompt Fundamentals

? A.I. Explore: Tips, Tricks & Rules to Break

? A.I. Explore: Collaborations (books 1 and 2)

Each book includes 10 in-depth lessons - with the first 2 books above all lessons from just me, and the Collaboration book are 9 additional contributors per book with me the 10th in each.

So, what do you suggest for improving the podcast and YouTube videos? The long format interviews are interesting, but not dynamic.

Getting answers...

CGPT v 3.5 had this to say:

There are several strategies you could consider to improve your podcast and YouTube videos and increase engagement among your listeners/viewers.

  1. Shorter Episodes: As you mentioned, your audience drops off after just a few minutes of your hour-long videos. Consider breaking up the content into shorter, more digestible episodes. You could try releasing a series of shorter episodes that cover a specific topic or theme. This will make it easier for your audience to consume the content and may result in higher engagement and retention.
  2. Segment Your Content: Another strategy is to segment your content into different sections or segments. This will help break up the monotony of long-form interviews and provide your audience with a more dynamic listening/viewing experience. You could consider adding segments such as "Ask the Expert" or "Tech News of the Week" to keep the content fresh and engaging.
  3. Experiment with Different Formats: Consider experimenting with different formats such as Q&A sessions, debates, or panel discussions. This will provide your audience with a variety of content formats and will keep them engaged and interested in your content.
  4. Engage with Your Audience: Encourage your listeners/viewers to engage with your content by asking for feedback, answering questions, and incorporating listener/viewer comments and suggestions into your episodes. This will help build a community around your content and increase engagement and loyalty.
  5. Promote Your Content: Lastly, make sure you are promoting your content across all of your social media channels and other marketing channels. This will help increase your reach and attract new listeners/viewers to your podcast and YouTube channel.

Overall, by implementing these strategies, you should be able to create a more engaging and dynamic experience for your audience and increase engagement and retention rates.

Now, for accessing CGPT v4, I used chat.forefront.ai, and chose Sun Tzu as the character I was engaging. This is what it had to say...

Ah, noble Brian, the challenge you face is akin to the art of war. In order to captivate your audience and maintain their attention, you must apply the principles of strategy and adaptability.

  1. Know your audience: Just as a general must know the terrain and the enemy, you must understand the preferences and interests of your listeners. Conduct surveys or engage with them on social media to gather insights.
  2. Divide and conquer: Break your content into smaller, digestible segments, each with a clear focus. This will allow your listeners to easily follow the discussion and maintain their interest.
  3. Employ deception: In the art of war, deception is key. Use intriguing titles and descriptions to pique the curiosity of your audience and draw them in.
  4. Adapt to the terrain: Tailor your content to the platform. For YouTube, consider shorter, visually engaging videos that complement your longer podcast episodes. This will cater to the different preferences of your audience.
  5. Leverage alliances: Collaborate with other creators and experts in the field of AI to diversify your content and expand your reach. This will not only enrich your discussions but also attract new listeners.
  6. Maintain flexibility: Be open to change and adapt your content based on feedback and emerging trends. This will ensure that your podcast and YouTube channel remain relevant and engaging.
  7. Cultivate discipline: Consistency is key in building a loyal audience. Maintain a regular schedule for your content and ensure that each episode meets the high standards you have set.

By applying these principles, you shall transform your podcast and YouTube channel into a formidable force, capturing the attention of your audience and leading them to victory in the realm of knowledge.

Wrap up...

So, you see what it has shared and where the numbers are... What advice do you think YOU would pursue and why? The fun thing with this exercise with a full transparency, is we all learn together and you get to sit back and watch me tackle the work while you gain insight after the fact. End result - we both get smarter, and you then have a great reference point of how to improve things for yourself!

Thanks for joining me in this A.I. Exploration. Until next time... So long!
