FDC's LoP Wafula Oguttu has arrived at Special Investigations Division for questioning over his alleged presence in Dr Kizza Besigye swearing-in video.
Yesterday we reported that treason charges had been prepared against 3 FDC leaders. Below is the story:
Three officials from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change face treason charges, according to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga.
Addressing press in Kampala on Monday, Enanga identified the three officials as Paul Ekanya, outgoing Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Wafula Oguttu and FDC national Chairman Wasswa Birigwa.
Oguttu was on Sunday summoned by police to make a statement about his appearance in the video which went viral on social media.
The video featured opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye seemingly taking an oath for presidency.
On Wednesday May 11, 2016, under circumstances yet to be explained, Dr. Kizza Besigye eluded the security around his home and ended up in downtown Kampala.
Dr. Besigye was soon arrested and then flown to Moroto where he is currently being held in the Moroto Government prison.
He has since been charged with treason and terrorism, detained in Moroto and later transferred to Luzira prison.
Enanga says Oguttu, Ekanya and Birigwa were expected on Monday at Standard Investigations Unit [SIU] in Kireka to record statements
He said the trio will be taken to court and charged accordingly.
Police is still investigating their involvement in the illegal swearing in of Besigye.
“We will get all the members in the video as well as that lady who acted as a chief justice and declared Besigye president,” Enanga told press.
He described Besigye’s oath-taking as “an insult to the presidency”.
