Video Killed The Radio Star
This edition of the Weekly Report is about video, so we made a video of me reading you the Weekly Report — in case you didn't want to read it.

If you Google the phrase “Top Marketing Trends” you’ll get hundreds of lists: 22 Digital Marketing Trends You Can No Longer Ignore, 10 Marketing Trends To Watch in 2019, 11 Trends That Will Shape The Digital Marketing Landscape, and The Ultimate Guide To Marketing Trends which lists six key insights for the future. It seems everybody has an opinion and they are happy to compile a list to tell you about it.
The one thing that marketing experts all agree on is that Video is THE trend. And the experts have been saying that for 10 years. So why is no one listening?
Chances are your company has a Facebook page and you have LinkedIn account and most all of us have a Twitter account we don’t use anymore. But does your company have a YouTube channel? If not, why not? YouTube recently surpassed internet giants such as Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia, to grab the top spot in global web traffic, almost tripling the 616 million people who visited Facebook last month. Yes, you heard/read that right. YouTube got 1.7 billion visitors last month. #WithAB
And the best part about YouTube is that you can link or embed video from that website to your own website, Facebook page, Twitter account, and LinkedIn profile. Video is a powerful marketing tool regardless of what kind of business you’re in. If you sell widgets, you can create a video detailing the widget manufacturing process, a behind-the-scenes look at the widget company, a video showing consumers how to assemble and maintain their widget, or simply show how the widget can be used most effectively. Online consumer's appetite for video has not faded and despite the fact that YouTube is only 14 years old — the same age as Madison+Main — it is now the most visited website on the planet.
A few years ago, if you were looking for a product or a service you simply would “Google it.” Now, people are going to YouTube and using it as a search engine. Why? Because people don’t want to read anymore. And they need to have things explained to them. What better way to do that than video?
Oh, by the way, we create killer video content, like this one.

5 年Great post, Dave. I've said for months now that the window to differentiate a brand with video is closing. It's fast becoming table stakes. What's the differentiator now? Quality video with higher production value. Better lighting, audio, editing, and professional performance. As everyone humps in the pool, the water rises.
Sad but true.
