Video Interviews – and the flip side – Video Job Specs

The last two years has seen a marked increase in the number of companies using Video Interviews – as part of the application process they are asking candidates to run through a few questions in front of the camera.

It is technology I explored along side of the Applicant Tracking System – and the technology is available. It is just one of the technologies available today to enhance the recruitment process – chat bots and AI is another I would really like to have brought in to the company I was working for over three years – but we were gearing ourselves up for a sale, controlling costs and trying to get more for our buck and it was only in the last weeks that I started working on video job descriptions.

As we approach 2020 try not to be left behind the curve. Encourage your company to adopt the technology that is available.

I would urge you not to make the video interview compulsory. Not everyone is confident in front of the camera and you may put off a number of applicants if you force them down this route.

Consider not just the video interview, which puts the onus on the candidate, but share the pain. Have the Talent Acquisition Team and the Hiring Managers involved in this too. Put up a few videos along side of the job description. Share the office environment with them, let the candidates see what the dress code actually is. Let them hear from the business what they see as the unique selling points of the company and the job. In the business world that is so time poor, a few minutes putting together a video presentation of the company will help attract the candidates that feel happy in such an environment.

In an ideal world, I would video this article. And I will get round to it but in the meantime please check out the link to see Bamboo HR’s thoughts on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-j3Ja8wTiA I think they have got the right tone. Some humour, informative ..... I just need to get one to the level!

Some great points. Technology is certainly going to be an intrinsic part of the recruitment process and I have seen video interviews being an active part of the process in my last contract. As with any tool, it should be used as part of a process and not be heavily weighted against face to face interviews be it second or final stage.

Hi Ian, Have a look at Launchpad. From what I have seen it has all the attributes needed for successfully acquiring talent. Philip
