?SUMMARY
Have you ever been afraid to come across as arrogant? It’s the #1 reason why people do not allow themselves to be confident. And it‘s a pity because confidence is one of the best traits you can have, while arrogance is one of the worst. So the key question is…
How can we become SUPER confident BUT NOT arrogant and NOT coming across as arrogant. There‘s 2 big myths about confidence:
Myth #1: being confident is the opposite of being humble.
The truth is – being humble is not the opposite of confidence – it‘s part of it! Even more, the two add up to a very attractive trait called charisma. The most charismatic achievers in the world are not only known for being super confident but also very humble.
Myth #2: arrogance is a higher level of confidence.
But it‘s WRONG: arrogance is NOT an escalation of confidence, it‘s the opposite!
Now that we understand the relation between confidence and arrogance, we need to do 2 things:
1. Boost our confidence as much as we can.
Re-visit the episodes ?How to become a Confidence Beast“ to learn three simple habits to become super confident
2. We need to nurture our humbleness.
Humbleness is our insurance and protection shield against becoming arrogant. It prevents us from thinking we‘re the hub of the universe. The best way to do this is a simple gratitude practice:
- Take a minute in the morning or evening, (whatever works best for you)
- Note 3 things that you are truly grateful for!
Reasearch has found out that shifting your focus to things that you‘re truly grateful for not only makes you stay humble and protects you from becoming arrogant. It’s also the best emotion to start your day to avoid stress, anxiety and feeling nervous. No matter how successful, rich, good-looking or blessed you are. Be grateful and humble! It‘s the key to be super confident but NOT arrogant. Muhammad Ali once said: ?It’s hard to be humble when you’re as great as I am.” And you know what? He did it anyway. So we can do the same, too!
