Video From Your Event Organizer? No, Thank You!

Video From Your Event Organizer? No, Thank You!

You’ve booked a gig at a HUGE venue…

There’s going to be a massive audience, a stage to rival TayTay, and some lighting effects that will knock your socks off…?

Everything is primed for a truly impressive show.

Predictably, you think...

“Wow, this is going to be amazing!? I’d better find a way to get some great video footage of my speech.”

My response???

You’re absolutely right!

?? High quality video of your speech can be a tremendous asset – one that can be used as a marketing tool for potential clients.

But, exactly how do you get that video?? Do you hire an expensive professional crew? Set up your own cameras? Rely on the event’s production team?

That last one is what we’re going to focus on today.? While it may be tempting to simply gather official event video footage from your client, there are several reasons why this might not be in your best interest.

Let’s take a closer look…

??One of the easiest and most efficient ways to gather great footage for your speech sizzle reel is to simply bring your own cameras… and RECORD EVERY SESSION!??

??Under no circumstances… should you rely on your event organizer or their production team to provide you with high quality video from their event.? It doesn’t matter how much they promise you’ll love it.?

Why?? There are four reasons…

??1) Massive Time Delay - if you’ve ever requested video footage from your event organizer, chances are you won’t actually receive that footage until months after your gig.

??2) Questionable Quality - often, when event organizers promise to deliver “high res video,” they end up sharing footage with not-so-great quality.

??3) The “No Show” Video - excuses can vary, but long story short… you may never get your video from an event organizer.?

??4) Made for the Wrong Audience - the event organizer wants to edit the video footage to appeal to future attendees who might want to come to the conference.? YOU want to edit that video to appeal to an audience of potential clients who might hire you to come speak.? So, they often give you video that is edited for the wrong audience.

There’s a time and a place when it makes sense to hire a professional film crew… for some speakers.? Here’s what it takes to make the magic happen.

Read to Hire a Film Crew? Do This First!

Okay… I know what you’re still thinking…

“Maybe it’s time to hire a professional film crew to capture my speech?”

But, there is a time and a place when it makes sense… for some speakers.? Here, let’s look at all of the important issues you’ll want to keep in mind.

????Before you hire a professional film crew, wait for your speech to progress to a point where you’re only refining it, rather than redesigning it. It should reliably generate 3-4 stageside leads with every single performance.

?? Instead of negotiating this as part of your speaker agreement (which can serve as a hurdle to landing the gig), just wait.? Wait until about four weeks before the event when they’re heavy in the planning of logistics.

??? Only ask your event organizers to bring in a film crew when you already know they are having their audience sign a release.? This way you are not causing extra work for the organizing team.

?? Hire a three camera crew so they can capture multiple views of your speech.? This will provide ample raw footage which can be edited together.

??Have a professional video editor lined up before you do the shoot.? This way you have a reliable way to transform the raw footage into a polished final product.
