Video: Army Kasese killings rise to six civilians - #Uganda

The national army has explained violent incidents in Kasese district that have so far cost the lives of six people. UPDF 2nd division spokesman Maj Ronald Kakurungu says last evening a group of 20 civilians attacked an army patrol vehicle in Kikonzo cell, Hima Town Council.

They were armed with pangas, knives and spears. Soldiers fired gunshots to prevent the group from seizing the vehicle and the weapons.

Two of the attackers were shot dead in a scuffle that left four soldiers injured.

Then in the night, civilians sneaked into the barracks and stabbed four officers.

Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander Bob Kagarura told Uganda Radio Network that police on Friday afternoon shot dead four more people who grabbed a machine gun from one of the police officers.

They are; Nason Sagini, Isaleri Kake, James Wayakwa and Musale Bwambale Kiremberwa all from Buhuhira Sub County.

The officer only identified as Thembo was injured with a panga at Kasenyi trading centre in Buhuhira Sub County.

Those killed were members of Rwenzururu Kingdom royal guards that protect Kingdom sites around Kasese town.

Witnesses say police accused the guards of attacking UPDF in Hima on Thursday.

Police and the army have since heavily deployed and taken over Hima town.  There are reports that the town is deserted and schools closed.
