La maravillosa vida prenatal —la vida de un ni?o en el vientre de su madre—, fue un gran misterio durante la mayor parte de la historia. Antes, nadie podía ver al ni?o hasta su nacimiento y eso lo convirtió en “algo” de dignidad inferior. Inclusive hasta mediados del siglo XVIII el ni?o apenas era considerado como un apéndice del cuerpo de la madre y, por eso, ella podía disponer de su vida.

Esto ha cambiado mucho, aunque la subvaloración prenatal sigue persistiendo. Hoy sabemos que el nacimiento NO constituye un cambio dramático (el ni?o es el mismo un minuto antes y un minuto después de nacer) pero existen grupos anacrónicos que creen religiosamente que, sólo al nacer, el ni?o adquiere “humanidad” o “dignidad”, y aún hablan de un imaginario “derecho al aborto”.

Una simple ecografía los desarma. Hoy se hacen ecografías 7D, con tecnología de ocho mil cristales e inteligencia artificial, que muestran en vivo un video a color del ni?o con calidad super HD. él está allí, tan vivo y pleno como nosotros, y en un proceso de desarrollo biológico similar al nuestro.

Pero no sólo el fanatismo abortista menosprecia la vida prenatal. Tantos siglos de desconocimiento han dejado su huella y la mayoría de nosotros la despreciamos también, sin darnos cuenta. Le muestro pruebas.

Sabemos que la vida humana empieza en la concepción y que implica una dignidad inherente, pero:

• ?Cuántas veces ha hablado del ni?o como de alguien que aún no es humano (“será ni?o”, “será ni?a”)?
• ?Cuántas veces ha hablado del ni?o como de alguien incompleto (“está formándose”, “está en camino”, “está en el horno”)?
• ?Cuántas veces ha hablado a los papás como si aún no lo fueran (“serás papá”, “futura mamá”, “tendrán un hijo”)?
• ?Cuántas veces ha celebrado su nacimiento como si fuera el inicio de su vida (“cumplió 1 a?o de vida”)?
• ?Se dio cuenta que el primer a?o de vida es, generalmente, a los tres meses de nacido? ?Alguna vez se le ha ocurrido celebrar su concepción, es decir, el verdadero momento en que comenzó a vivir?

Vida y nacimiento NO son equivalentes. Pero, en la práctica, nos hemos acostumbrado a invisibilizar al ni?o prenacido y a menospreciar la riqueza de su existencia prenatal.

Es tiempo de cambiar estas actitudes tan arraigadas y reconocer que el ni?o dentro del vientre es otro ser humano tan valioso y digno como tú y yo.

Life and Birth

The wonderful prenatal life—the life of a child in its mother’s womb—was a great mystery for most of history. Before, no one could see the child until his birth and that made him “something” of inferior dignity. Even until the mid-eighteenth century, the child was hardly considered an appendage of the mother’s body and, therefore, she could dispose of her life.

This has changed a lot, although prenatal undervaluation continues to persist. Today we know that birth does NOT constitute a dramatic change (the child is the same one minute before and one minute after birth) but there are anachronistic groups that religiously believe that, only at birth, the child acquires “humanity” or “dignity”, and they still speak of an imaginary “right to abortion”.

A simple ultrasound disarms them. Today 7D ultrasounds are done, with the technology of eight thousand crystals and artificial intelligence, which show a live color video of the child with super HD quality. He is there, as alive and full as we are, and in a process of biological development similar to ours.

But not only abortion fanaticism belittles prenatal life. So many centuries of ignorance have left their mark and most of us despise it too, without realizing it. I show you evidence.

We know that human life begins at conception and that it implies inherent dignity, but:

• How many times have you spoken of the child as someone who is not yet human (“it will be a boy”, “it will be a girl”)?
• How many times have you spoken of the child as someone incomplete (“is forming”, “is on the way”, “is in the oven”)?
• How many times have you talked to dads as if they weren’t yet (“you’ll be a dad”, “mom-to-be”, “they’ll have a child”)?
• How many times have you celebrated your birth as if it were the beginning of your life (“turned 1 year old”)?
• Did you realize that the first year of life is usually three months after birth? Has it ever occurred to you to celebrate your conception, that is, the true moment when you began to live?

Life and birth are NOT equivalent. But, in practice, we have become accustomed to making the preborn child invisible and underestimating the richness of its prenatal existence.

It is time to change these ingrained attitudes and recognize that the child in the womb is another human being as valuable and worthy as you and me.
