IS THE VICTORY OF THE PAST ALWAYS RELIABLE?

Inquire from my teachers, especially Prof Madu, who introduced the concept of semantics during my undergraduate studies in the department of English at the University of Abuja. They will tell you I was a phenomenal student.

I am certain Prof Madu and a few other lecturers loved the kind of engagements we had in class because I wasn't a student who attended classes to take only notes but to share ideas that made studying English Language and Linguistics worthwhile.

After 18 years of working in fields related to supply chain management and publishing, I decided to enrol for a Masters's degree and was again fortunate to meet some of my favourite lecturers. Prof. Madu was excited to see me because she looked forward to the old me that would always discuss several concepts in semantics whenever she lectured.

A few times in class, she tried to seek my opinion about the new concepts she introduced to the advanced semantics class, but I couldn't contribute like I used to. My life had changed. I wasn't an active student anymore that had a lot of time to research the things I studied.

I sensed her disappointment when I couldn't make a lot of contributions because she constantly reminded my new coursemates about the brilliance I exhibited when Linguistics, Semantics, Pragmatics, Grammar etc., were all that mattered.

I am certain, that if I had continued actively researching subjects related to my undergraduate learnings, I would not have been so rusty.

Today, many people argue that Baba Tinubu is the best candidate for Nigeria following his antecedents as a governor in Lagos State despite his partisan support for the present administration even when they performed abysmally.?

When he was a governor, he didn't need the support of any aide to walk from point A to B. He could shun the allocations from the Federal purse and called president Obasanjo bluff because Lagos at that time was developed enough to be driven by the private sector. He also had the energy to implement policies that made Lagos self-sufficient.

But as with everything in Life, we get to a stage of decline when most of the things we want to achieve will become just dreams.

David in the bible was a conqueror for God, a man God says is after his heart. He wanted to build a house for God at least before passing on, but God said it wasn't his role anymore.

As humans, we will never be able to fulfil every plan we have made for our lives.?Our Past victories are no guarantees that we will be champions of tomorrow.

It's like asking Mike Tyson to fight Anthony Joshua. He may be able to throw punches, but how many can he take?

We cannot be building a New Nigeria only with the experiences of those in our past.

If Baba Tinubu and many old politicians have done well, why is the Nigerian state in steady decline?

It is a question we must answer. I believe that we owe our children a better future. Now is the time to start.

Forget APC. If they knew better, they would have let Osinbajo and Zulum try, but since they decided to bring forth Baba Tinubu, with all my heart, I implore us to turn to the best candidates;?Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti of the Labour Party.

May we not build a new country with the victory of our past. May we not put New wine in old Skin. Amen.
