"Victory, Love & Peace"
When I first met Mr. Shuler, I was immediately impressed with the way in which he approaches life day to day. He has a personable and upbeat demeanor that he seems to hang on to no matter what he faces. He told me how others are drawn to him for guidance and wisdom. I could definitely see that!
He explained how his passion was to help those younger than him, try to grasp a different perspective. Two conversations in, I knew it was time to offer him this feature. With his focus on motivational speaking, Mr. Shuler was the perfect candidate for a much-needed highlight.
Mr. Shuler’s responses are always to the point. I asked him to tell me more about Jamal Shuler the individual. It says a lot about him when he told me he had been a devoted husband to his wife all of these years. He proudly shared that he was an active leader in the community. When I asked him to elaborate, Mr. Shuler shared he was active with his church and strived to redirecting youth.
It seems wherever Mr. Shuler presents himself, he instinctively starts up a conversation on how we cannot take life for granted. He delivers his message with a smile, yet an assertive approach that says to the youth, “…listen to me; I have been in your shoes!”
Being in a position to share his views, I asked Shuler to share the best advice he had ever been given. He shared it was,
?“…to never give up on your dreams and always have a positive outlook on life.”
I invited Mr. Shuler to share his vision for his future. He shared that he saw himself owning a home. He also shared that establishing his own company, an organization, was his ultimate goal. I asked him to tell me more about this particular goal. Mr. Shuler stated,
“Growth revolves around ambition, motivation, and self-improvement.” He emphasized this was something he wanted to interject into his future business. He added he had many interests and avenues he could take, from construction to health care, but I could see his passion was truly in building meaningful connection and helping others. He would confirm this later on by sharing his long-term goal of obtaining his Human Services degree.
In conversations with Mr. Shuler, he mentioned that he enjoyed reading and had read many books. I was curious as to what he considered to be his favorite. He shared two titles with me: Vision for Black Men, by Na’im Akbar and Rich Dad, Poor dad, by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. He said business and investing were the things that stood out from the latter. I told him I had heard of it many times but had not yet read it. Mr. Shuler said I would enjoy it, so now I must read it! ?Shuler told me Akbar’s book gave him a sense of self-direction and made him question just how he could build himself.
I asked Shuler, if he could save the world, what would that look like. He replied,
“If I could save the world, there would be more peace. People all over would have harmony.”
For my final question to Shuler, he again went straight to the point, and I should have seen it coming.
Shuler stated that if he were to win an award, “it would simply say the following: Victory, Love & Peace.”
Mr. Shuler, if you were presented with such an award, it would most definitely capture the person you are today!
