Victors or Winners? Run Rabbit Run!

Just before my son's first 100 mile race begin, I texted:

"From the book of Tactics: I'd much rather climb into the head if someone who has lost and see what made that person come back to be a victor, then climb into the head of a winner -- Rafer Johnson" Have fun Jon!

"Jon replied back:

"Haha I don't think there are any winners in a 100 mile race".

Truer words were never texted!

I googled a description of victors vs winners and found this link from Mr. Saikia:

"Victors are a slowly vanishing breed. Victors are not out to win, they are out to do the right thing. They are about achieving the highest levels of excellence, and if in the process they win, then so be it. They are fighters for sure, but not for the satisfaction of seeing someone defeated, but for the satisfaction of achieving a goal. Victors follow the right path, take pride in doing what is right. Taking credit is not the way of the victor. Walking the talk is the way of the victor. They are idealistic and open minded. They may not win, but they stay the course. Most victors talk straight. If winning means playing unfair, a victor will walk away. Victors look at the mirror and meet their reflection eye to eye. For the victor character is everything."

The race started on Friday 9/16 at 8:00 am and he finished the race mid afternoon the next day. ?Jon later said: "It was wild 5 hail storms and we got rained on at 3 am...."

There are times when obstacles are out of our control and the race may even finish the runner. True grit and determination expose the character of the victor when the victor is at his or her lowest. This in turn inspires everyone else around.
