?Victorians face more electricity price hikes under Labor

The worst fears of Victorian families and businesses have been realised - soaring electricity prices are here to stay.?

The Essential Services Commission (ESC) has proposed new electricity prices for 2025/26 for households and small businesses on the Victorian Default Offer (VDO).

Prices will rise by up to $68 in some distribution zones compared to 2024-25, with an average increase of $12 statewide.

Small businesses face price hikes of between $77 and $128 compared to 2024/25. The average across the five zones is a $103 increase on last year.

Although there will be a small price drop in some zones, the overall picture offers little relief, with Victorian prices rigidly stuck at levels that strain the budgets of families and businesses.

In 2022/23 the VDO increased by 4.5 per cent, followed by a 25% jump in 2023/24.?

Today’s announcement confirms that these rising electricity prices are entrenched under the Allan Labor Government.

Only a change of approach to energy policy will help lower Victorians’ energy bills.

David Davis, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, said:? "After 11 years in government, Labor is still failing struggling families and small businesses, delivering consistently high electricity prices that continue to hurt Victorians and their budgets.

“These soaring electricity costs should have eased by now, yet they remain stuck at unaffordable levels because of the Allan Labor Government’s mismanagement of the energy grid, making life even harder during a cost-of-living crisis.

“Only a change in government will give Victorians the cost-of-living relief they need.

“Labor can’t manage energy and Victorians are paying the price.”
