Restoration work is rewarding ,the end result is usually all that the client and others really see, granted most restoration specialist document their work to show how the work is done and the stages required ,such documentation is also very helpful while training others.
The prep or invisible work is the greater part of the job, here is a small part of how my work is carried out.
a small section of a larger contract, damaged tiles are cut out using an Exakt saw, the saw blade cuts to a depth of 14-15mm this is enough to go below the tile body depth , then when the damaged tiles are cut out using a hammer & chisel the hammering does not transfer sympathetic resonance to the adjacent tiles.
very important as before the advent of the Exakt saw often bigger sections would spring loose, I would drive home if I left my exakts behind.
The underlying screed usually a lime-based is ground down using a variety of attachments on a Fein Supercut.
so for a small section like the one pictured to get to the end restored tiles it takes a large amount of time skill & patience. The floor was cleaned using HTC diamond pads & water no chemicals , sealer as always Dry-Treat .
