Victims of Domestic Abuse need unconditional Legal Aid
? April 9, 2020 ? Helen Thewlis ? Domestic Violence, Family, Covid-19
An article today confirms that The Law Society has called on the government to provide more help and support to domestic abuse victims. This follows a significant increase in domestic abuse incidents due to the current lockdown. The Domestic abuse charity ‘Refuge’ has reported a 25% increase in calls to its national helpline since the lockdown began.
The support that is sought relates to the difficulties with obtaining evidence required to access legal aid and the practicalities of accessing professional support if the parties continue to live together during the current lockdown.
These are unprecedented times and it may seem that it would be difficult to access help during these times if you are suffering from domestic abuse. At Ramsdens, we wish to reassure you that this is not the case. We have many measures in place that are working successfully to ensure that we can assist people in obtaining emergency protection from the Court.
We still continue to advise clients in relation to their options if they are a victim of domestic abuse and we can help you access help that you need even in these difficult circumstances.
As well as accessing legal advice, people who are suffering domestic abuse can also access help from charities and organisations that continue to operate and provide support. If a person is in any danger they must call the Police even in the current circumstances as they are still there to help.
If you, or someone you know, are experiencing abuse, please contact Ramsdens Solicitors. We work closely with various domestic abuse services that can provide further help and assistance for matters such as security at home and safety. In an emergency, please do still call 999.
