“Growth demands a temporary surrender of security” –Gail S. Are you a product of the vicious cycle? Every major brand makes our world comfortable or extremely convenient. Just to be clear, none of these brands or product are necessarily bad for us, yet, they enforce a sense of right now. Right now requires little to no effort or wait because it is currently happening .When you live a right now life there are several benefits. It appears you get what you want when you want it, you appear happy, things are replaceable, people are things and things are things and there is little to no tolerance for in a moment. It is like cooking something in the microwave verses the stove/oven. Things in the microwave work, they meet your need quickly and you get to move on to the next thing. In the stove/oven it takes a little longer, your needs are not immediately met and you get to experience in a moment. When you compare microwave food verse stove/oven food, the taste of oven food is almost always better. When living an in a moment life, you are clear that you will get what you want it will just take some time. The time in between is not to purposely drive you crazy, it is to fully prepare you to ingest and appreciate what is coming. In a moment allows space for you to create an experience before the experience actually happens. With this you become less attached to getting your needs met from things outside of you. It becomes an internal process. The vicious cycle of that next pair of shoes, that next degree, that next woman/man no longer has all the power to quench the urge because you have learned to internally quench your own urges. In a highly attached and connected world it almost sounds insane to detach from things/people we continuously use just to meet a need. If we are committed to growth, reaching our next level or creating a more fulfilling life, it’s inevitable, there will be discomforts. A friend gave me good advice recently, just get used to being uncomfortable until you are not. If you feel little to no discomfort in your life, chances are you are in some cycle of comfort and convenience with little to no growth on the horizon.
What would be possible in your world if you were not attached to the fix (right now) but appreciative of the process (in a moment)?

7 年Shavon, you could not have picked a better time to share this article with me! I am working with my coach in making some changes and am approaching a decision which will require me to step out of my comfort zone, at least temporarily. I think, in most cases, this kind of a leap is necessary for meaningful change
