Vicious Circles!

Vicious Circles!

Vicious Circles!

Managers who are feeling overwhelmed and fighting every day to do a good job are often victims of these pesky traps.?

And vicious circles are seriously nasty things!??So much nastier than their lovely cousins the virtuous ones.

And they are really really easy things to fall into.

I often work with driven, results focused, business leaders and what I’ve learned is that these cycles are always there, ready to fall into, and although falling into them can be catastrophic we fall into them for all the right reasons.

Let me explain.

When what we do at work really matters to us, we work hard, we set high standards for ourselves and our teams and we are really driven to do a good job.

But if we fall into the trap of just working harder and harder we are, at best, inefficient and, at worst, heading for burnout.

And that’s the vicious circle.??If you are driven and you just keep throwing hours, time and effort at work you will make progress but at a potentially high price to yourself, your health and your family.

Lots of leaders fall into this trap and I include in that list completer finishers & perfectionists (who can’t let go, go home or stop till something is perfect) and movers & shakers (who think one more move, one more shake will be the one that makes the difference).

So why don’t we just get on with it?

Because, although it is hard, there is a better way.??And that involves taking a look at what we are doing, how we look after ourselves, what we are working on, how we manage ourselves and how we manage others.

Effectively working out how we can leave the nasty vicious circle and get into a virtuous circle where the way we work, the way others work and what we work on brings results within the time we have available to us.??In this world we use our focus, our energy and time well.??So we still get results and still deliver but also shift to having a sense of a job well done and plenty of time for the R&R that will let you get up ready to excel day in, day out.

If I can help you or one of your team move from the a nasty cycle to a good one, or you’d just like to know about working smarter not harder please find me on Linkedin & make contact.??
