Vice President Jessica Alupo tips youth on agriculture, livelihood

The Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo has tipped young people to double their efforts towards working hard to ensure that they are not left out.
Alupo who was commemorating this year’s International Youth Day Celebrations in Katakwi, her home district, said reiterated Government’s commitment towards including all young people in various opportunities including job creation.
She however urged youth to pay special focus on agricultural ventures which Government is currently promoting as well as other government programs like the Parish Development Model, Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program and the Youth Livelihood Program where they can borrow money and engage in commercial agriculture to expand their income.
Alupo made these remarks at an event organized by one of our local partners, Partners for Children Worldwide in partnership with the Katakwi district local government on August 29, 2023.
This year’s international youth day was celebrated under the theme, “Accelerating Recovery from COVID-19 and Full Implementation of 2030 Agenda”.
The Vice President used the occasion to commend development partners for their contribution towards skilling youth.
Other activities.
At the same event, Partners for Children Worldwide also extended support to a total of 66 children who were indisposed. The support included groceries, mosquito nets, among other items.
Over one thousand (1100) youth attended this event.
Kampala Area Federation of Communities (KAFOC)
Meanwhile International Youth Day celebrations at the Kampala Area Federation of Communities were marked with several sports activities including football, netball and volleyball. All four communities of Bbina, Mbuya, Nakulabye and Kireka converged, and the three best communities were awarded with trophies.

The event created an avenue for young people to showcase their talent and skills. The function was graced by members of the Nakawa Division youth office. The leaders used the platform to sensitise youth on a range of opportunities with the Kampala Capital City Authority. Over 200 youth attended this event.
Green Skills for Youth
Lango Child and Community Development Federation (LACCODEF) on the other hand, commemorated the day with the theme dubbed, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a sustainable World”. The focus was on developing youth skills towards a green world, thus contributing to the sustainable development goals.
Several activities were hinged on giving back to the community as well as protecting the environment.
LACCODEF also engaged different children and youth in writing of articles on climate change and the best 12 were given rewards for their good pieces. These were drawn from the communities of Acenlworo, Ikwera, Telela, Amuda, Dokolo, Acori, Adita and Apyennyang in Lango Sub Region.
A total of 120 youth (59 male, 61 female) were engaged in different Youth Day of Service activities. These included sweeping trading centers and market areas, cleaning water sources, slashing bushy areas in the health facilities and tree planting both at household and community level.
There were also activities of tree planting particularly the mahogany species and mango, pawpaw, oranges and avocado trees.
The final celebrations of the International Youth Day took place at Amuda Primary School in Dokolo district, and a total of 1021 youth attended the event.
