Vibrant Hope: Favor And Establish the Work of my Hands, O Lord

Thursday 8/29/2024

Psalm 90:17: “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us?—?yes, establish the work of our hands.”

Deuteronomy 28:12: “The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.”

Both verses express a strong desire for God’s blessings and favour in our lives. Psalm 90 is a prayer attributed to Moses, conveying the fleeting nature of human life and the need for divine support. Deuteronomy 28 outlines the blessings for obedience to God’s commandments, emphasizing His provision and abundance for His people.

Psalm 90:17: This verse is a heartfelt plea for God’s favor to rest upon His people. The psalmist acknowledges that human efforts alone are insufficient without divine endorsement. The repetition of “establish” indicates a yearning for stability and lasting impact in their work.

Deuteronomy 28:12: This verse illustrates God’s promise to bless His people when they walk in obedience abundantly. The imagery of rain signifies nourishment and growth, while the ability to lend reflects a position of strength and financial stability.

Application

  • Seeking God’s Favor: As Christians, we should continually seek God’s favor in all our endeavours, recognizing that true success comes from Him. This requires prayer, humility, and reliance on God’s guidance.
  • Obedience to God’s Word: Just as blessings are promised for obedience, we should strive to live according to God’s commandments. This involves aligning our actions with biblical principles and trusting God’s provision.
  • Trusting in God’s Provision: We can take comfort in knowing God is our provider. In times of need or uncertainty, we can rely on His promises to bless the work of our hands and provide for our needs.
