Veterans | Top Tags in July
There were many great posts in July on LinkedIn with valuable information for #Veterans.?I appreciate being looped into these conversations.?I learned several things.?More importantly, some of the information included in these posts is presented more clearly than an official announcement - which is another reason to follow these folks.
The six posts I am highlighting provide information, resources, and opportunities to improve economic opportunities for Veterans and their families:
1.?Resources and Information
A lengthy post by Eric Kittelson listed many #militarytransition resources.?Thanks to Boris Kun for bringing me into the discussion.
High-five to Military Veterans of America for succinctly letting everyone know about the new number – 988 – to call for mental health assistance in this post - I recommend you add this to the “saved” and “favorite” numbers on your cellphone.
2.?Benefits Update
Scott Forbes, BA Forbes describes an important but often overlooked way to obtain disability compensation seamlessly as you exit service.?His post on Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) should be a must-read for those in the last year of service.
Tyrone Hewitt shared the latest information about VR&E from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs .?This is one of the most effective benefits, but there is often confusion about eligibility (“can I still use it?”) and his post explains that.?Still have questions – call 800-827-1000 and ask VA directly.
3.?Innovation
Joseph Barnette reports that Veterans Community Project is building tiny homes for homeless Veterans in St. Louis.?No doubt, there is much more to solving this complicated problem, but its exciting to see action being taken.?

4.?Just-in-case
Even though Veteran unemployment is at historic lows it's possible to be unemployed during your transition or between jobs.?Toni D posted information about unemployment compensation eligibility and the process to apply. It's an important reminder of how states also provide benefits to Veterans.
- Specially Adaptive Housing Grant
Tyler P. , invited me on to his radio program to discuss this and related housing benefits.?To listen click, here.
5. Quick Takes
I also had the chance to discuss important topics with Veteran thought leaders this month:
Maggie Pollard explains VET TEC ?
Ashley Saville discusses the widely available scholarships for eligible Marine family members through the Marine Corp Scholarship Fndtn in this video.
William A. Hudson, Jr. describes how Veterans and OTH discharge may still be able to access their VA benefits, here.
