Veterans, Military Spouses Now Have Free Access to Google Career Certificates Through Hiring Our Heroes’ Learner-to-Earner Program

Employers have shared with me how important specific skills are in preparing job seekers for today’s?workforce.?A traditional four-year degree is not the only pathway for every person or career. Credentials such as career certificates send a clear message to employers that a candidate has the skills, drive, and commitment to succeed in any role. ?
More and more employers are focusing on job-ready skills-based hiring — much like the design of the Google Career Certificates.??
Hiring Our Heroes Launches Career Forward??
In collaboration with Google,?Hiring Our Heroes?recently launched?Career Forward, a new program that will skill 8,000 transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses for in-demand jobs with Google Career Certificates?while providing the wraparound support needed to access employment and career resources.?And through Google’s?generosity, Career Forward enrolled learners?will have?access to Google Career Certificates for?free.???
Google Career Certificates is a self-paced, online learning program that develops in-demand job skills in high-growth career fields, including data analytics, IT support, project management, and user experience design. The certificates are designed to help provide learners with the skills they need to land entry-level jobs in three to six months, no degree or prior experience required.?
I believe?Career Forward will change lives?by connecting more of our nation’s veterans and military spouses to the resources they need to?thrive in today’s economy.?The Google Career Certificates program helps people from all backgrounds increase their economic mobility?and strengthen and diversify our nation’s workforce—over 50% of graduates identify as Black, Latino, female or veteran.?To date, Google has trained 20,000 veterans with digital skills and invested over?$40 million in funding and ad grants to increase economic opportunity in the military community.?
Career Forward enables Hiring Our Heroes to reach segments of the military community often underrepresented in employment programs, such as service members stationed overseas, transitioning service members who decide to separate after one term, and in particular, those who do not have college degrees.??
Career Forward is the first program in Hiring Our Heroes’ history to provide a complete career pathway for the entire military community, including transitioning service members, military spouses, and veterans.??
I knew that there was a demand for this type of program, but I may have underestimated?how great the need was among our military community members.?Within two hours of Career Forward’s launch, more than 200 people enrolled in the program.??

No experience necessary.?You don’t need a college degree or relevant experience to enroll in Career Forward.?There are 1,300,000 in-demand job openings across certificate fields and this training is available?to those with an interest in learning job-ready skills.???

Stand out to employers.?Veterans often face unemployment challenges when entering the civilian job market?—?64% of veterans lack a college degree?and nearly 8 in 10 service members leave active duty without job prospects. ?
For years, military spouses?have?experienced?an?unemployment rate of 24%,?nearly eight?times higher than?the?average?unemployment rate?for all adult women.?Unfortunately, recent surveys conducted by Hiring Our Heroes found that military spouses are now unemployed at a rate of 38%.???
We know that?56% of unemployed?military spouses?plan to return to the workforce in the coming months and?the majority of them?(80%)?are willing to?do?the training necessary to help them?secure?employment.??
Career Forward couldn’t have come at a better time for military spouses?and veterans?seeking employment.?It’s important to note that 82% of Career Certificate graduates report a positive career impact in six months.?
A path to in-demand jobs.?Career Forward is a pathway to a new career in the IT field. We do that by?encouraging?program participants?to submit their resumes to the??Google Career Certificate employer consortium, a group of more than 150 companies – including Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte, Freedom Learning Groups,?Molecula, Verizon, and Google?that are currently hiring for these skills.??
Career Forward participants also have the opportunity to apply to?Hiring Our Heroes Fellows Programs, a collection of best-in-class workforce development programs that place highly skilled and educated transitioning service members, military spouses, and veterans with employers committed to hiring them.?

We urge you to remove their products from retail shelves in your country. Urge these companies to stop selling their goods, stop sponsoring the war and killing innovent people in Ukraine! More than 100 Ukrainian children and over 3000 civilians have already been killed. Products of these companies should be blocked until they leave the russian market!

There is a war going on in Ukraine, bloody and ruthless, the stupid Russians are still brazenly lying to the whole world about how they don't do it. There is too much evidence, even more victims. Are you really ready to continue supporting all this? Do you enjoy being a sponsor of all this action? If not, I beg you to stop cooperating with Russia. Now your hands are covered in the blood of Ukrainian children, you can't wash it off...
