Veterans at HealthEquity

Veterans at HealthEquity

Veterans, one of our Connections groups at HealthEquity, is not just a support network; it's a space of hope and unity for veterans, their families, and their allies. They have demonstrated that a small group of dedicated individuals can make a world of difference.??

Formed by a handful of veterans within the HealthEquity community, the Veterans group is an embodiment of camaraderie and a driving force for positive change. They have banded together to provide a landing zone for service members, military family members, and allies, creating a space where support, knowledge, and unity is paramount.?

We sat down with Justin K. , Co-Chair of Veterans, to learn more about their mission and the impact it has on HealthEquity teammates and beyond.?

What inspired Veterans to form????

The group was founded based on a simple yet powerful idea – veterans at HealthEquity wanted to do more for their fellow veterans and their families. Recognizing the unique challenges that military service members and their loved ones face, this group sought to create a support network that bridges the gap between the military and civilian worlds. Veterans of HealthEquity aims to strengthen relationships among those who share a common military service background, ensuring that the spirit of camaraderie and support lives on beyond the military.??

What is Veterans’ mission?

Veterans has a clear mission: "To provide a landing zone to rally support, share knowledge, and build camaraderie for service members, military family members, and allies." Their commitment extends not only to veterans but also to anyone who supports military families. After all, the impact of military service often ripples through the lives of loved ones and friends, making their support equally crucial.??

What goals does Veterans have???

In pursuit of creating a supportive community for veterans and allies, Veterans has outlined four main goals:??

  • Recruitment and Support: They aim to improve the recruitment process for veterans and spouses of veterans, ensuring a seamless transition to HealthEquity.??
  • Mental Health Advocacy: The group seeks to establish a robust mental health support system, acknowledging the unique challenges veterans might face.??
  • Celebrating Success: One of their objectives is to spotlight HQY veterans and their contributions, both within the organization and in the wider community.??
  • Community Engagement: The Veterans Group plans to collaborate with community organizations focused on supporting veterans and actively engage in community service.????

Impact on HealthEquity and Teammates??

Despite its relatively short existence, this group has already had a significant impact on HealthEquity and its team members. Their monthly meetings have proved to be more than just discussions; they’re a lifeline for those who need it. One example involves Christy Allred, a HealthEquity team member and the mother of a service member. The group rallied around her when her son, Micah, recently graduated from basic training and found himself in a new and unfamiliar environment, struggling with feelings of isolation. The resulting conversation about mental health was a testament to the group's dedication in supporting its members.??

“It just so happened that we had a Veterans meeting within days of Micah telling me he wanted to quit the military… The group jumped at the chance to help with support and suggestions. I took notes and when I spoke with Micah next, I was able to give him some of the ideas from everyone and pass on the love and support from his fellow battle buddies here at HealthEquity. It meant a lot.”?- Christy Allred

Veterans is looking forward to collaborating more closely with the HealthEquity People team, ensuring that veterans and their families are well-informed and supported in the recruiting process. The group plans to communicate service opportunities across the nation and engage with various veterans' groups to extend their support beyond the organization.??

By rallying around their shared experiences and driving forward their mission, Veterans is proving that at HealthEquity, the spirit of service never fades away.?They have embraced the spirit of belonging through support, encouragement, and creating a safe place to share. Thank you to all service members at HealthEquity and beyond.
