Veteran Mental Health: A National Epidemic

On this Veterans Day, we at SDV extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans for their incredible bravery, sacrifice, and service.??

We understand that the challenges don’t end when the uniform comes off.??

For many, civilian life brings tough, unique struggles, especially with mental health.?

Today, it’s more important than ever to acknowledge the mental health crisis affecting our veteran community.??

Many veterans bear invisible scars from their service. They often struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.??

Here are a few statistics that show the reality of this dilemma.?

• Each day, more than 17 veterans take their own lives due to suicide, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.??

• More veterans die each year from suicide than in the Afghan and Iraq wars combined.?

• About 1 in 4 active-duty members show signs of mental health issues, like anxiety or depression, during their service.?

These statistics are heartbreaking and sobering.??

They also bring light to how common these issues are.?

Each number represents someone who fought for our freedoms.?

But also, someone’s friend, spouse, parent, or child.??

Hearing this information may create a sense of hopelessness and despair.?

But as new research and technology emerge, we are optimistic.??

Experts are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this field to find solutions to this problem.?

We believe there is a brighter future ahead for our veterans.?

But we must continue to strive for improvement and innovation.?

While continuing to create awareness to keep this dilemma at the forefront until change is made.?
