1933 Smedley Butler, decorated Marine Corps General and legend that became disillusioned with capitalism and through his experience with American foreign policy that mostly include securing business interests abroad through warfare or potential genocides.
He wasn't a CBD oil or coffee pushing veteran on LinkedIn, he was one of the United States Marines Corps most decorated generals. Smedly Butler had fought his was across many of the United States territory expansion efforts before WW1 came into play.
He was approached by a a cartel of wealthy business magnates including JP Morgan, American Steel, General Motor, and Dupont and to speak to the "bonus army" or protesting WW1 veterans who had formed Hooverville camps in DC demanding early payment of their bonus, who were also gassed and shot at , including wives and children eventually by General MacArthur.
He was asked to speak to the veterans against the removal of dollars gold standard. They offered him $1000 (20,000 today). At the time this time he nor the the veterans cared about the removal of the gold standard, yet Gerald C. MacGuire kept asking him to give the speech, at the time, the removal of the gold standard worried larger magnates that influence would crush the economy, or at least limit the ability to create sums of vast wealth in dollars.
The end goal was to have Butler win leadership of the American Legion in hopes of using the angry and disenfranchised veterans as muscle in far right paramilitary fashion similar that was being seen across Europe at the time (brown shirts, nazi storm troops) to eventually march on Washington and take over the powers of government from Roosevelt and insert Smedley as a business friendly fascist leader.
Butler testified and provided evidence to Congress but no other witnesses or accuser were called in or examined from any of the named , he went public with the information but no other investigation was conducted. He released a public speech condemning the business tycoons and attempted over throw of the U.S. Government.
He went on to became an outspoken critic of the military industrial complex America was continuing to grow into too, openly speaking out and writing on the topic until his death.
Look at the defense industry today, then think about this next time you see your local veteran age male in patriot prayer or proud boy type organization.
Veterans and wanna bes have been exploited in the past all over world to become the informal intimidators and violence dealers for fascists to be installed into power, this isn't a conspiracy theory, it's a a historic tactic and repeatable event we have seen multiple times, recently across Europe.
If it wasn't for one Marines Honor, Courage, and Commitment to America we could be in a worse world we are today, but we should look back at history and consider how we got where we are and currently heading to eventually. The checklist traits of fascism are easy to spot from the less century ago alone, so lets use what have seen only decades ago and not let it become the cycle we see this decade.
