A Very Special Thanksgiving

A Very Special Thanksgiving

To all,

?As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting deeply on what it means to be grateful. This year, gratitude takes on a profoundly personal meaning for our team, our community here in Asheville, NC, and for me as both a leader and a neighbor.

?Hurricane Helene tested us in ways we never imagined. It left our region without drinkable water for 53 days and disrupted power, internet, and communication for weeks. Homes were lost, businesses shuttered, and some families suffered devastating personal losses. Yet, amidst the darkness, what emerged was a light of resilience, kindness, and the incredible power of community.

?Our Asheville-based team endured these hardships with unwavering determination, supported by the dedication and generosity of our colleagues outside the region. To those teammates who stepped in to keep our operations running smoothly while we faced these challenges: thank you. Your efforts not only sustained our business but also lifted the spirits of your Asheville-based peers during a time of profound difficulty and sadness.

?The outpouring of support from our clients, partners, and friends was equally humbling. Many of you reached out to check on us, offering not only kind words but tangible help. Some of you donated to local organizations aiding in recovery, extending a helping hand to those in need. It was a vivid reminder of the goodness in people and the deep, human connections that transcend business relationships.

?I’ve always believed that supply chain professionals share a unique understanding of what it means to respond to challenges with precision and heart. In many ways, supply chain is about solving problems under pressure, ensuring critical needs are met, and doing so with an eye on both the big picture and the human element. That spirit was evident in how so many people from all walks of life rallied to support those in need.

?While our city and greater region have faced significant loss, what we’ve gained in unity, compassion, and resilience has been extraordinary. People from all over the country—and even the world—have lent their time, energy, and resources to help rebuild. It’s a reminder of how interconnected we are and how, in times of need, humanity shows up.

?This Thanksgiving, as I sit down with my family, I will carry this gratitude with me. Gratitude for the opportunity to work with such remarkable clients and colleagues. Gratitude for a team that exemplifies dedication and compassion. Gratitude for the resilience of Western North Carolina and all of its citizens.

?On behalf of our team, thank you for being part of our journey. Wishing you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving holiday filled with warmth, reflection, and gratitude.

?PS - the need for ongoing aid within our region is still significant, especially with the media moving on to the next big story. If you wish to help, here’s a list of reputable non-profit organizations who are doing great things to help those in need within our local and regional communities. Thanks in advance for any support you can offer during these difficult times.

With heartfelt thanks,

Founder & Managing Partner - Rodney Apple
