The very best from others.....

....except from my daily message to the company.

Last night as I was packing for my trip to kick off our clinical study at Wake Forest, a thought popped into my head about creating ripples through focusing on bringing out the best in others. I am writing this letter today for me and you. Today, I am planning on trying something out, and if you would like, give it a try for yourself and others around you. Consciously work to bring the very best out of people - with your family, co-workers, boss, friends, customers, anyone you interact with today. It may just be a positive thought, a laugh, an idea, something small, but collectively if you and the entire team focus on this all day those micro-moments build energy and force. The ripple becomes a wave and the wave becomes a Tsunami. Let's all give it a try and see what happens.

This morning you have your sales huddle call. Think through how to help others on the call, actively listen to their updates, provide ideas on how to achieve the collective goal, but most importantly bring out the best in each and every person on that call. You are all trying to solve the same problem, work together to bring the best out in each other. Focus on the common problems, with solutions in mind and be open to others providing solutions. Remember, everyone wants you to succeed. If your team's collective goal is to bring out the best in each other and every single person truly focuses on that in your call, throughout the day in conversations, and in emails/texts to each other - guess what - you all benefit. When you work to bring out the best in someone else, there is an almost magical response, that act will bring out the best in you. The ripple will come back, may not happen today, but it will come back.

When you are at the hospital today, in the micro-moments work to get everyone to at least a smile - from the person checking your temperature at the door, to materials management when you check in, to the OR and ICU staff, to the person at the register in the cafeteria. Focus on every single person...the minimum is to get a smile, the goal is to improve that person's day, over achievement of the goal is to help them by bringing the very best out of them, even for just a moment. These small actions over the course of the day will radiate positive energy from you to others and from them to others....positive ripples.  

Give it a try today - consciously focus on every single person around you. When you are at one of your hospitals, think about how you can achieve this goal. When you are buying a Gatorade at the gas station - get the cashier to crack a smile or feel good about themselves - you consciously do this and you both will feel great in the moment. With the family, focus on them and bring out their very best. The ripple always comes back. 

These acts will make you stronger, those around you stronger, and in doing so will make Potrero Medical stronger. The ripple will start small, but the effects will absolutely grow in size and power with time and more people practicing.  

As Maya Angelou said, "people remember how you make them feel". Make them feel great today.
