"A Very 2015" Crowning Moment Mix-Up for Miss Universe

The world paused in great shock during an awkward, to say the least, moment during the most watched and very live global broadcast of Miss Universe.

TV personality and Miss Universe host, Steve Harvey, mistakenly announced the wrong winner. Harvey first announced Miss Universe 2015 to be Miss Colombia only to apologize minutes later and clarify that Miss Colombia is actually the first runner up.

This left with the other top 3 finalists Miss USA and Miss Philippines. Then the cameras clearly focused on the real winner...

Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!

Crazy, I know!

Now you can already imagine the shock and confusion this brought to viewers worldwide who could not contain their emotions and blasted the mix up on social media.

Many poked at Harvey for his mistake and related it to another shocking event in television, the old Kanye "Imma let you finish..." speech from the MTV VMA's back in 2009, taking away Taylor Swift's winning moment saying Beyonce should have won best album of the year.

Some critics highlighted the confusing card Harvey had to read but the host should have been well-prepared for such an exceptional announcement on live television. After the broadcast, Harvey immediately and repeatedly apologized to the media, contestants and viewers. Lastly, Harvey apologized and congratulated to the real winner, Miss Philippines. This incredible mishap could have been avoided, however both Miss Universe and Steve Harvey did the right thing in taking full responsibility of the mix-up and apologizing to the media and via Twitter.

Although Miss Universe was almost going to be back to back ladies of Colombia, Miss Colombia thanked her fans for their support.

As for Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, here is her reaction to her unique crowning.

What an elegant way to show that the moment you dreamed of might not have turned out how you expected, but it is the journey which lies ahead that truly matters. Miss Philippines has been a top finalist for the crown in the last couple of years, a top 10 finalist in 2014 and third runner-up in 2013. As a Filipina myself, I am very proud of our country and our new Miss Universe! The Miss Philippines' countless efforts to continue to strive to the top hit home and encouraged me that if Miss Philippines can become Miss Universe, I can reach for my biggest dreams too.

Miss Wurtzbach exemplifies the ideal Filipina, smart, beautiful, humble and proud of her homeland with dreams and hopes to make the world a better place. I can't wait to see what the future brings for our newest Miss Universe.

And I have to say, Miss Wurtzbach's answer to why she should be the next Miss Universe was very elegant and trendy, fit to be the true Miss Universe 2015. #ConfidentlyBeautifulWithAHeart

Mistakes happen, no one is perfect. I'm glad he took responsibility for the error.
