Vertical Elevation Newsletter - June

As the head of an organization, you can easily wind up doing work that's not necessarily in your wheelhouse to keep your business moving forward. However, as your company grows, it's in your best interest?to hire and delegate. You'll free up precious time in your day to focus on strategy and build trust with your team.?

Every company’s needs differ but consider the following examples to take into consideration:

Hiring

As a CEO, you shouldn't be leading your hiring initiatives once you've grown. Leave it to your chief talent officer to design the talent strategy alongside the other members of the executive team.??Because the person has a background in professional recruiting on the agency side, they will make more informed decisions than you can. And as a part of your executive team, they will be in tune with your vision for the company.??

On a micro level, the individual hiring process is then delegated to a recruiter and the direct manager who oversees the specific position since they have the most context for the exact position.

If you are leading a start-up, it is understandable to recruit your own people, but if you’re not experienced in doing that, invest in a consultant to assist you. Bad hires are extremely costly and can hurt your company tenfold what the consultant costs you.

Social Media

We aren't experts at everything. Social media may seem straightforward, but it’s 2024 and there are plenty of people who have obtained degrees and years of experience in the field. Not to mention they also feel passionately about it compared to many of us.

Since social media has also become a standard marketing tool in many industries, spending money to hire a manager will bring a return on investment. Budgeting funds to at least enlist someone part-time to develop a plan and implement it will pay off over time.

Sales

It’s great to be hands-on with prospects/clients. However, training people early on to sell your product or service using your method will allow your numbers to grow beyond what you can do alone. Another option is to hire salespeople who are experts at just that.?

If you’re on the ground connecting with people all day and someone else can be handling it, that’s a clear sign that it’s time to delegate. Spending money on great, experienced people can pay off, although it may be daunting to transition.??

Make decisions with care.??

When it's time to start delegating, make careful decisions in the hiring process. Enlist a recruiter with experience. The people you accept early on can make or break your profits, company culture, and overall long-term success.

It’s also advantageous to hire a coach to maximize your potential in making these choices. Even if you’ve led companies before, a great coach will help you discover weaknesses that may be living in a blind spot.?
