The Versatile Design Guru
It was an uplifting, inspiring as well as reminiscing?Saturday evening to join special birthday celebration of my good friend Dr. Amaresh Chakrabarti ?(friend of 42 years ) – Senior Professor , Indian Institute of Science (IISc) & Chairman of Product Design Center and hear all the anecdotes of his wonderful visionary contributions ?at Cambridge and IISC from his esteem global colleagues and students.
To me- yes , he is always the brilliant topper in our four college years, but so much more – a great footballer, ?the artist, the Bengali poet-and-singer, the humble well-respected glue in our batch.. That got me thinking – for a multi-disciplinary subject like Product Design ?such versatile talent and curiosity are so much the key pillars. As we see now more convergence of fields (e.g. impact of literary science or ethics in current Computer science), we are in dire need the same vision - who can transcend the boundaries of Art, Science and Technology. Perhaps as Amaresh watches Messi dribble, he thinks of Robotic ‘Swiggy’ in Bangalore busy road; as he effortlessly pencil-sketches a figure , the sketch lines triggers next-level aero-dynamic contours in his mind!
All my tribute to the Versatile Top Scientist and a perfect gentleman and friend -?Amaresh. Please keep on inspiring and innovating…

1 年I played alongside AmareshDa for the erstwhile Bengal Engineering College, present day IIEST, football team. We met last and chatted off and on almost for the entire duration of the flight, at times standing on the aisle at the rear end, from Calcutta to Amersterdam on our return journey as I was returning to US and he was to University of Cambridge in the winter of ‘95.
