Verida Network Mainnet is live
On December 28th, 2023, Verida Mainnet officially went live, marking the arrival of the first private self-sovereign data network for web3.
The Verida Network is the first self-sovereign database network for storing private data. The Verida Network is decentralized public infrastructure (DePIN) providing secure and private database infrastructure for users to own and control their private data.
Today marks a massive milestone for the Verida community. The network is now a reality four years after its beginnings, and two years after the release of the Verida Whitepaper.
The Verida Testnet has reached over 35,000 accounts in late 2023 and we are excited to migrate those users across to Mainnet as soon as possible.
A new era for data control with DePIN
The Verida Mainnet launch signifies more than just Verida going live. It’s the start of a new era for personal data ownership. A time where anyone can choose to take control and ownership of their personal data.
Whether you’re checking into a hotel, signing up for a new app, going to a doctor and filling out patient forms, or joining a crypto exchange, you’re always finding yourself in a situation where you’re handing over licence numbers, passport details, your home address, the list goes on.
One in two people are victims of data breaches, caused by the centralization of user data, while large corporations have a monopoly over how to use our personal information.
We have no agency over what information we can share and what we can keep private in any given situation. Every time we share information, we increase our risk of being exposed in a data leak and falling mercy to data theft.
Verida is changing this status-quo and providing a new architecture for data ownership and application development that puts users front and centre, in control of their digital identity and personal data.
The growing Verida ecosystem
Verida is not enabling the personal data ownership vision alone. A growing ecosystem has emerged to contribute new capabilities and extensions to the infrastructure stack.
We’ve been working with key partners across web3, crypto and identity and data ecosystems to bring privacy-preserving decentralized technology to the world.

Introducing the Verida Mainnet
The Verida Mainnet is the production ready deployment of the Verida network for storing private, user data on mainnet storage nodes, controlled by private keys.
This release includes the deployment of the Verida DID method on Polygon PoS blockchain, enabling users to manage their self-sovereign identities. The Verida developer SDKs now support both Verida Testnet and Verida Mainnet for building dApps that handle private user data. See Developer Docs for more details.
Existing demo applications have been upgraded to operate on the Verida Mainnet, while the Verida Wallet has been upgraded to support data storage using the Verida Mainnet.
Getting started on the Verida Mainnet
You will need to update to the latest Verida Wallet (iOS and Android) to access the Verida Mainnet.
We strongly recommend all Acacia Testnet users migrate their accounts to Mainnet. This process can be managed directly in the latest version of the Verida Wallet. Any data on your Testnet account will be permanently deleted once this process is completed.
The Verida Missions rewards program will continue on the Verida Mainnet. It’s critical that existing Testnet users who have completed activities on Verida Missions, migrate their Testnet account to Mainnet, in order to retain their existing XP rewards.
Alternatively, you can create a new Mainnet identity from scratch in the Verida Wallet.
Important: The Verida Wallet blockchain wallet currently supports testnet blockchain networks. Mainnet blockchain network support will be available shortly. Do not send mainnet tokens to your testnet addresses. See our user guides on using testnet faucets to send tokens to your wallet.
Use your Mainnet identity to connect and use these apps:

How to migrate to the Verida Mainnet
Users on the Acacia Testnet are recommended to migrate to Myrtle Mainnet. This process can be managed directly in the latest version of the Verida Wallet. Any data on your Testnet account will be permanently deleted once this process is completed.
Verida Wallet Users
Important: Do not close the Verida Wallet or switch to a different app while it is migrating. As a decentralized network, your mobile device is responsible for replicating your data between networks. It will likely take 2–5 minutes to migrate your data, depending on how many applications and how much data you have stored on the network.
See the Verida Mainnet Launch guide for more details.
Application developers
Developer documentation has been updated to include details on switching between testnet and mainnet. There are two key changes for application developers to upgrade their applications to use the Verida Mainnet:
See the Developers Migrate to Mainnet page in the Developer Portal for more information.
Verida Missions and XP Rewards
Verida Missions and the incentivized testnet program has been instrumental in testing the performance of Verida network infrastructure and Verida applications. We’re thankful for everyone in our amazing community who have participated to date.
Verida Missions has now transitioned to the Verida Mainnet.
Important: You must upgrade your Testnet account to Mainnet to transfer your XP points and be eligible for future claims.
Your XP rewards will soon be convertible to VDA tokens as we move closer to the token launch. Stay tuned for more information on this.
This marks the end of our incentivised testnet, and beginning of our ongoing Mainnet rewards program. Migrate your Testnet identity, or create a new Mainnet identity to get started. We’ll be sharing more details soon on how you can continue to claim your personal data on the Verida Network and get rewarded.

Build private data first apps
Verida’s launch is an opportunity for developers to push the boundaries on how personal data is secured and stored. The Verida stack invites developers to create novel applications powered by the fastest decentralized database network for web3.
Make the end-user the centre of your business. Start building the applications of the future, where users own their data and have hyper-personalized experiences.
There are many emerging decentralized use cases that require more than just blockchain to see the light of day. We’re here to help those new projects come to life across social, insurance, healthcare, identity, and much more.
We’re actively supporting developers building self-sovereign, high performance, scalable, and secure decentralized applications by integrating Verida using our SDKs. Check the many use cases on our website and reach out if you’d like to discuss your idea with us.

Verida Mainnet expectations and security
Verida’s wallet, protocol and token have undergone several comprehensive security audits. The audits included automated vulnerability testing, manual security testing, a review of the Verida architecture and smart contracts.
The first audit on the Verida Protocol and Verida Wallet (named Vault at the time) mobile app was completed by Chainsulting. A second audit on Verida Token and Verida Protocol was completed by Hashlock. Issues uncovered during automated and manual analysis were meticulously reviewed. No critical issues were found, and the team has addressed or acknowledged all other issues identified. The protocol received the highest possible rating by Hashlock, reserved for projects that ensure ongoing security.
Verida core devs will inform the community of any network outages or performances through our official social channels; Twitter, Discord, Telegram.
Running a Verida Network Storage Node
Applications are now open for infrastructure providers to apply to participate as a foundation node operator on the Verida network.
The foundational release will target a mixture of node operators across different data centres, different regions. We aim to accommodate and incorporate both small, medium and large operators to support the Verida network.
These foundational members will be rewarded for their participation and are expected to work closely with the Verida team to ensure our documentation, tooling and protocol are meeting our delivery objectives of the network.
Storage nodes will be brought online in staged cohorts as the Verida team learns and receives feedback on deployment processes, availability, security, real world usage, payments and incentives.
Check out our website specifically for Storage Node providers and fill in the application form to get involved.
