???The €9 public transport ticket & shared mobility

To alleviate sky-rocketing fuel prices, Germany introduced the?€9 public transport ticket?from June to August, giving citizens unlimited access to local and regional services.?

The €9 tickets were a huge success - saving?1.8 Million Tons of CO2?- but how were privately-owned shared mobility services affected?

Compared to the 3 previous months,?City Dive?shows a 30 to 50% increase in trips on scooters and mopeds during the summer, while bike trips are more varied but still increasing. We looked at the 2021 data for these periods, and it was consistent with last year's ridership growth (seasonality).?

For shared mobility, it was a win: scooters and mopeds had great success throughout the summer, demonstrating their complementarity with public transport.?

???3 contracts up for grabs in Rome

The City of Rome has published its?scooter-sharing RFP, which will regulate this market (7 companies are currently operating in the Eternal City). The process will hand 3 companies a 3-year contract to operate a fleet of 1,000 scooters.?

Scooters will have to be fitted with QR codes to allow real-time identification, and speed limits of 20km/h (6km/h in pedestrian areas) will be introduced . Users will have to provide an ID before riding.?
