Meet the 2024 Ascend Energy & Mobility Accelerator Cohort
?
Eight Michigan-affiliated startups have been selected to participate in the Ascend Energy & Mobility Accelerator, powered by VentureWell, Techtown Detroit, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s EPIC Prize. Through six weeks of rigorous training, these founders will work with expert mentors to strengthen their company’s financial model and move their startups from customer discovery to commercialization. Their solutions include a mobile solar energy grid to provide reliable, sustainable power to rural communities; a method of producing inexpensive, distributed clean hydrogen for trucks and heavy-duty vehicles; and a scalable sodium ion battery with a low-cost design, to store power for an extended period of time and redistribute it on demand.
The Power of an In-Person Workshop: E-Team Program
?
This past summer, 23 student teams convened in-person at the Washington Clean Energy Testbeds in Seattle, Washington, for an energizing two-day workshop as part of our E-Team Program. Fifteen teams began their entrepreneurship journey by participating in Pioneer, the first stage of the E-Team Program, which includes $5,000 in grant funding and dedicated training to help uncover the ideal market for their inventions. Eight teams advanced to Propel, the second stage of the program, where they received an additional $20,000 in funding and three months of training in building their business model canvases and testing their business hypotheses. Applications are open for our upcoming Winter 2025 cohort, which will take place at The Garage in Baltimore, Maryland. Participants can expect hands-on training, real-time feedback from our dedicated teaching team, and opportunities to network with mentors and peers.
