Acorn Genetics Is Revolutionizing DNA Testing
Max Derbyshire was inspired to develop an affordable, at-home DNA test with co-founder Ana Cornell when he discovered that the same genetic condition runs in both of their families. They launched Acorn Genetics, a third-generation genetic sequencing device that enables fast and efficient at-home testing without the need to outsource DNA to a third party—an increasing concern for consumers who want to protect their personal data. “When it comes to your DNA, the most fundamental part of who you are, you want to keep that private,” Derbyshire told us. They participated in both Pioneer and Propel, the first and second stages of our E-Team Program, receiving $25,000 in grant funding and dedicated entrepreneurship training to support their venture. Applications are open now through January 31.
