The Stories That Inspire Us: VentureWell’s 2023 Year in Review

In our 2023 Year In Review, we spotlighted the work of inspiring innovators like Brandon Martin, a past participant in our Aspire program and founder of Reaction Technologies. He’s developing a small device that wraps around a player’s chest, reinforcing the proper “heads up” technique to build situational awareness and minimize head, neck, and spinal cord injuries for kids in contact sports all over the U.S. Through Aspire, Martin was able to connect directly with our team of investor-mentors, receiving tailored one-to-one support that helped him navigate the challenges of being a first-time entrepreneur. We are proud to support entrepreneurs like Martin who are changing the world with their high-impact innovations.

Unlocking the Power of the DEBUT Challenge—and a $160K Prize Pool

Last year, DioTeX was awarded a $15,000 Healthcare Technologies for Low-Resource Settings Prize as part of the Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) Challenge. Its invention, a point-of-care device that can diagnose severe hemorrhaging in under 15 minutes using a drop of blood, earned significant recognition for its focus on supporting low-resource clinical settings. The team went on to win fifth place in the Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge. Submissions for this year’s DEBUT Challenge are open now through May 31. There are many opportunities to win, including the Steven H. Krosnick Prize (First Place, $20,000), the Second Place Prize ($15,000), and the Third Place Prize ($10,000).
