Phil Weilerstein Appointed to the EPA’s HBCU-MSI Federal Advisory Council
?
Phil Weilerstein, president and CEO of VentureWell, has been appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions Federal Advisory Council (HBCU-MSI FAC). In this role, Weilerstein will join a group of 20 distinguished members, appointed by EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, to provide independent advice and recommendations on strengthening the role of HBCUs and MSIs in developing future environmental leaders. Members of the HBCU-MSI FAC serve in a voluntary capacity and were selected based on their expertise in academia, workforce development, and leadership. The council’s work will support the EPA’s goal of strengthening partnerships with HBCUs and MSIs and promoting environmental justice.

In this initiative, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s American-Made Challenges, we helped founders connect with cutting-edge intellectual property developed in national labs. By leveraging our extensive network built through decades of collaboration across the VentureWell Accelerator, we tapped into a dynamic pool of talent with the right combination of vision and entrepreneurial drive. We equipped Lab MATCH participants with the experience and expertise they needed to succeed. What We’re Looking For in an E-Team Program Application
?
Every year, we select up to 25 teams across three cohorts (Spring, Summer, Winter) to participate in our E-Team Program. We look for competitive student-led teams that are committed to the development and commercialization of their technology. Their innovation must offer a compelling solution to a pressing challenge facing society, healthcare, or the environment. A principal investigator should be supporting and overseeing the project development, with an administrative contact or department chair serving as a sponsor. Faculty: Remind your students that submissions are due October 2. They are welcome to review our FAQ page and application guidelines for more information as they craft their submission materials.
