Measuring the Success of an Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship Course
Funded by a total of $50,000 in awards from VentureWell over two years, Professor Mari Luz Zapata Ramos and Associate Professor José Lugo of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez created the New Venture Design Experience (NVDE), a one-year interdisciplinary program that blends business and engineering. “We are not creating startups or companies. We are creating innovators,” says Lugo. Through NVDE, students receive support in developing products, services, or processes that have the potential for commercialization, with each team assigned funds to develop prototypes.
