Innovation This Week: This entrepreneur is making mammograms more informative. ??
The Inventor Series Sponsored by Qualcomm: Featuring WAVED Medical
?
In September 2024, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) required all mammogram reports to include breast density, which should be described as either “not dense” or “dense.” Kendra Batchelder, co-founder of WAVED Medical, is ahead of the curve: She developed image-based algorithm software that identifies dense areas of high risk for patients who are more likely to develop breast cancer. Batchelder received additional funding through the 2023 Qualcomm Innovator Stipend, and she used this to assist with legal fees associated with securing rights to the intellectual property (IP). We spoke with her about her efforts toward defining the future of preventative care for breast cancer.

Startup Horror Stories: How To Avoid Stressful Situations When Starting a Business
?
Starting a business can be a rewarding journey, but there are also a number of known (and unknown) risks. Many entrepreneurs aren’t prepared to handle scary scenarios, so we asked some of our VentureWell Accelerator alumni what nightmares they’ve faced along their unpredictable journeys. But don’t worry—we included a five-step guide through stress-testing a business, with actionable tips and tricks for navigating even the most nerve-wracking situations. We highly recommend working with student entrepreneurs to guide them through potential risks and solutions when they’re still in the early stages of development. This is an excellent time to simulate scenarios worthy of Halloween, before these horrors become a reality.
