Yes, Venting...the codes define it as "to prevent loss of trap seal".
it really is that simple.
so this is my first ever newsletter. i hope you find it interesting, different, stimulating... please ignore the use of all lower case letters. (that saves time) and time IS money! and i apologize for any misspelled words.
plumbers spend a lot of time talking about venting. individual, common, stack, circuit, wet, and so many more. sadly most young, and old, plumbers may not understand the difference and where to use them. all my old coworkers called everything a REVENT. im not sure exactly what that is. maybe a west cost venting option.
vents have basically one reason to exist. drum roll please::::{{{}};;;"":-)
to protect the trap from being siphoned by another fixture. thats it my friends. so next time your buddy says his drain is not working, rest assured, its not a venting issue. its a clogged pipe.
until next time. stay strong, pray hard, love your kids, and carry the biggest pipe wrench possible.
wild bill...out!

1 年Ok. A straw is a straight pipe. Your finger will air lock it. A plumbing system has a san tee for the sink. Trap arm. P trap. You can plug that vent. The sink will still drain just fine because of gravity. To “air lock” the sink you must put your finger over the the sink. (Top of the straw??). That is not a straw theory. Because if the sink has your finger over it you cant run the water. The straw theory does not apply to plumbing. Its the wrong premise. Thats why we dont double trap. If you still doubt… get on your roof and cap the vent. Come on. Go for it ?? The sinks will still drain. Its possible with no vent the toilet or tub can siphon the lav. But the lav will drain just fine. ??

1 年@Bill Westrick the top of the straw could be a Studor vent in an island sink.
