Venice : save it before it's too late.
I watched this video yesterday and it reminded me of that morning when I saw, in between the 2 columns of San Marco square, the big bow like you see in this video now...It happened many years ago when our mobiles were not able to take pics and there was no internet...not a century ago tough...less than 20 yrs ago. I was younger, already working as incoming operator and sometimes welcoming cruise passengers coming down from the first big cruise ships.. 20 yrs ago, before this new era, the first cruise ships were vessels...small, stylish, with interesting passengers, interested in culture and in discovering the port of calls with a real interest in local life...not just interested in saying "I was there" looking for a fake "Made in Italy" souvenir.
What do I want to say? Venice can live with tourism and tourists,we need them but as all things in nature, this phenomenon has to be shaped on destination size. Can you drive a car without having a clue on how to drive? Can you wear shoes that are not your size? Impossible, you would feel pain! Can you let a lion walking in the middle of the street with no accident and injured people?
More or less is the same.
Venice is too little and too fragile to sustain such violence several times a day almost all year round.
Are you in love with Venice and travelling to Europe? then choose to come to our countries in different way or with smaller cruise boats. Never twice without a third, we all know that.
YES TO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, NO TO DESTROYING DESTINATIONS. Believe me, we need to support fair business development to save us!!!

You know Vuokko Johanna Laine. I love travelling, I sell travels experiences, but I really think we have to pose ourselves a limit..a boat cannot be a "building" sailing over the seas.. too big in many ways...to move, to evacuate in case of emergency... business is ok...but we will implode...and the globe is already too much oover abused...let's try to limit the damages... we have to ACT, NOW!
