Veggie Delight

See below for the latest digestible insight into one of the four components of food culture:?Change, Comfort, Connection, and Creativity.

What’s on the menu this week??Creativity.

Here’s the latest on what culture cues are inspiring people to get creative.

What We're Seeing:?A 2019 CDC study found that only about 10% of adults meet fruit and vegetable intake recommendations, and a new assessment tool by the American Heart Association found fewer than 30% of?people ages two to 19?received high scores for?heart health. This data alludes to the fact that both kids and adults struggle to eat their greens. Recently, certain brands have pulled out all the stops to make veggie consumption a little more intriguing. Salt and Straw just released a vegetable line of ice cream flavors (racking up the media coverage) and 8Greens created a veggie lollipop (snagging a Drew Barrymore endorsement). The odd combination of indulgent treat and healthy veggie is pulling consumers in, because weird stuff wrapped in a sweet package always seems to win.

What That Means:?Brands have an opportunity to make veggies feel more like a treat than a chore, while also providing those unconventional combinations that feed our curiosity.
