Seabloom,?a plant-based seafood brand, with products made with pea protein instead of the more usual soya protein, and organic Scottish seaweed, has launched its nutritious tuna-fish alternative into retail. The brand - which is said to be “helping to pave the way for a thriving ocean” by?Ali Tabrizi, British environmentalist, and filmmaker,?who is best known for his 2021 Netflix documentary Seaspiracy – is making waves in the plant-based seafood industry.?

There are two flavour varieties in the new range, Olive Oil ‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes and award-winning* Lemon ‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes, which can both be found in the frozen section on Ocado now. The product is also currently being developed into chilled form by the brand.?

Finding healthy and tasty seafood alternatives has been one of the biggest challenges for vegan and vegetarian consumers, the category has lacked variety and the nutritional benefits of seafood. This is where?Seabloom?is doing things very differently...?Seabloom?‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes offer similar?nutritional benefits to tinned tuna and are made from only natural, plant-based ingredients.?

Thanks to the use of pea protein, the products are made without soya, giving consumers who prefer not to or are unable to eat soya, another option when it comes to vegan tuna alternatives. They are also high in protein, omega 3, and iodine and contain no gluten and no mercury, making them suitable for children and pregnant women.?

Greta?Desforges-Hodgson, Founder of?Seabloom, who previously worked in the seafood industry, explains?“On a trip to Cape of Good Hope in South Africa in 2018, I saw whales breaching out of the sea alongside industrial fishing vessels. Despite working in the seafood industry for over 18 years, it didn’t feel right, and I knew I had to do something about it.?

“I was inspired to create a plant-based seafood alternative brand made using nutrient rich seaweed and 100% plant-based ingredients to protect our oceans and the wildlife that lives there. Fish is so good for your diet, so I knew that any alternative needed to be similar in nutritional benefits, flavour, and texture. We have big plans for the brand and are continuously making developments, starting with the additional chilled launch of our ‘Tuna-Free Flakes’, and many other exciting NPDs.?

Made using organic Scottish seaweed, the ocean’s superfood, plus?pea protein and nutrient-rich flaxseed oil.?Seabloom?‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes are?perfect for vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and flexitarians.??

The?Seabloom?‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes range?can be used in the same way as regular tuna, in salads, sandwiches, tacos, on pizza, and added directly to hot dishes such as pasta and sauces straight from frozen.?

Created with the environment in mind, the?Seabloom?‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes range is currently?frozen and?can be defrosted at room temperature in 3 hrs or in 6 hrs in the fridge.?Seabloom?‘Tuna-Free’ Flakes come in recyclable packaging (minus a?film lid).?

“I feel so strongly about redressing the imbalance created by?the industrial fishing industry; it has taken too much from our oceans. To support the protection and conservation of this incredible habitat,?Seabloom?will?donate 1% of its turnover (not profit, but turnover) to?Sea Shepherd?to support its campaigns and provide fuel and equipment for its ships and volunteer crews as they work tirelessly to protect our oceans.”?Adds Desforges-Hodgson.?
