The Renewed Debate on 'Work From Office vs Work from Home'?

No alt text provided for this image

The future of work is a topic that has gained significant attention in recent times, particularly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However recently, a few statements recently have arisen from founders and entrepreneurs which have yet again sowed seeds of doubt in the growth path of remote working. Gaurav Munjal, the CEO of Unacademy mentioned that the first piece of advice he gives to new founders is to ‘ban remote work’. But is the situation that bad? Remote working turned out to be a saviour in the last few years, but with this tussle, the question arises: will work from home prevail, or will the traditional work-from-office model make a comeback?

On one hand, proponents of WFH argue that it offers numerous advantages. One key benefit is the flexibility and improved work-life balance it provides. By eliminating the daily commute, employees can save time and reduce stress, allowing them to allocate more time to personal activities or family commitments. This flexibility can contribute to higher job satisfaction and overall well-being.

Additionally, remote work can lead to cost savings for both employees and employers. Employees can reduce expenses associated with commuting, such as transportation costs and parking fees. On the employer's side, implementing WFH policies can result in reduced office space requirements, saving on rent, utilities, and maintenance expenses. These cost savings can be redirected towards other areas of the business or invested in employee benefits and development.?

On the other hand, there are arguments in favour of the traditional work-from-office model. Proponents of WFO emphasize the importance of in-person collaboration and communication. Being physically present in the same location can facilitate spontaneous interactions, brainstorming sessions, and the building of strong personal connections among team members. This can lead to enhanced teamwork, synergy, and a sense of camaraderie that may be challenging to replicate in a remote work setting. Elon Musk recently stated that remote working has made employees lazy and goes to the extent of calling it ‘morally wrong’.?JPMorgan told its bankers that failing to show up for work could result in 'corrective action,' and ordered its leaders to be present five days a week.

So, what will prevail? Work from home, work from office or a hybrid connection of them both? How will companies adjust to this new normal? We’d love for you to weigh in on this debate.?

Employee experience management refers to the strategic and holistic approach that organizations take to design, optimize, and enhance the overall journey and interactions of their employees throughout their employment lifecycle. It focuses on creating a positive, engaging, and fulfilling experience for employees at every touchpoint, from recruitment and onboarding to ongoing development, well-being, and offboarding.

The significance of employee experience management lies in its potential to drive organizational success by fostering a highly engaged and motivated workforce. When employees have a positive experience, they are more likely to be productive. Prioritizing employee experience is the first step. It is an intricate process that includes various elements and can have a decisive impact on a company’s growth as well.

Here’s an example of ideal experience management - Airbnb is known for its employee-centric approach. The company recognizes the significance of employee experience in driving its business success.

It offers unique perks to enhance experience, such as a $2,000 annual travel stipend, which allows employees to explore and experience Airbnb listings firsthand and also provides employees with a "Bleisure" policy, allowing them to extend business trips into personal vacations. These initiatives demonstrate Airbnb's commitment to creating a positive work environment that promotes work-life integration and employee well-being.

With companies exponentially increasing their focus on employee experience, this aspect becomes a very important aspect of their HR strategy. Since it involves people, it is important to implement strategies that have maximum impact with minimal error rates. To know more about what these strategies can be and how they can benefit a company, check out this blog on our website, which also gives a detailed perspective on experience management.
