Harry Potter and the Game of Identities?
?
The world of Harry Potter may seem like a magical realm, full of witches, wizards, and mythical creatures placed in a parallel world linked to ours – but are things really that different when it comes to managing people? Probably not. Here’s our take on how we think this best-selling book series teaches us about effective human resource management! ?

Background Checks or Rendezvous with Dark Lords??
?
So what can be our takeaways from a boy who has faced more battles than the examinations he’s written? Well for starters, it underlines the importance of profile verification. Given the hype around moonlighting, quiet quitting, quiet hiring, and everything going on; employers have become a little warier of the people they employ, technically they should. And the Harry Potter series has aided in this cause by showcasing examples, like how in the first book, all they had to do was to open Professor Quirrell’s turban and check ??. Or that they got to know that Alastor Moody was impersonated AFTER the Triwizard Tournament. ?
But in all seriousness, you want to find the right candidate, in?the right role, at the right time, is it not? Therefore it is important for companies to establish metrics identifying relevant details like verifying their past work experience along with their skillsets. Though we know that new hires cost up to 3x?more than retention, the cost of a bad hire would also be higher than retaining and encouraging the existing ones.?
To help you understand these examples better, here are some names to do so – Severus Snape and Sirius Black. Both are termed as anti-heroes and murderers and accused of being dark wizards while they had Harry’s best interests at heart.?
Lessons of Loyalty with Rubeus Hagrid?
What does loyalty sound like – a full-on bear hug, complete faith, and trust? Or is just how you would describe Hagrid??
领英推荐
Whether it is to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, to Dumbledore, or to Hogwarts itself. He has been the epitome of loyalty. All of this is because Dumbledore took him under his wing and trained him to be the gamekeeper. It shows the value of investing in your employees for their betterment. Hagrid was always given a voice at the table and was treated as an equal when others did not, and he repaid it with unwavering fealty.
Let’s take this from another perspective: how supporting employees can help you in long run. Dumbledore even though knowing that Snape is a death eater trusted him till his last breath (even later). Snape who was seen as an anti-hero had good intentions and worked hard to save both Hogwarts and Harry from the clutches of Voldemort. Trust your employees and invest in them. You will keep reaping the benefits sooner or later.
P.S. What do you think Harry Potter has helped you with??
