Nature has provided unlimited treasure of herbal plants in the Himalayan belts for the welfare of mankind in the form of herbal medicines. Ayurveda is the outcome of the ancient scriptures of Vedas known as ATHERVEVEDA and astrology is also known as VED CHAKSHU (Eyes of Vedas). Both are counter parts of one subject. This Himalayan belt of ancient sages, hermits, saints & our ancestors has been popular since the ancient times in research and studies on Ayurveda thus it is important that the ancient medical science of Ayurveda may once again become popular as it was in the distant past and its centre point remains the Himalayan belt which is most recently come to be known as its part the state of Uttaranchal.  

According to the use of the rules of ancient scriptures of Ayurveda the medicine given to a patient has an immediate effect its main reason was that the knowledge of Ayurveda and astrology was restricted to only one person. Because in Ayurveda the medicine given to a patient is related to the herbs and these herbs are related to plantation, production, and then business for income which is perfectly based on the stars which installs life in plants. Without the use of astrology these herbs are in effective to the patient. If in Ayurveda, astrology is also combined in preparation of herbal medicine then it will prove to be most effective.  

We are carrying out research work & studies in various fields of Astrological science for the past many years. There is a relation between Astrology & Ayurveda as they are parts of Vedas. We do research and studies on the planetary influences on herbal plants which are given to the patients after the preparation of its medicines.  

Life is available only on this planet earth. This planet earth is also revolving around the Sun like other planets. The speed of revolution of all the planets has been determined by the Sun. To make life existent on this planet earth the other planets shoot down their cosmic ray which leaves its effect on every living creature, birds, animals & plants. To start function an individual's body is based on the current flow inside the body which is received from nature. After contacting the cosmic rays which is available in nature a body starts functioning & sends out its energy in the form of body aura to make a body magnetic field to manage the whole life cycle & is connected to the joys & sorrows of an individual. When a body receiver gets the germs related to an ailment from nature according to the need of a body only then a body thinks how to get rid of the ailment. Since the ancient times to get rid of an ailment ancient scriptures Rig Veda & Ather Veda tells that through the help of herbal plants, ailments can be cured which is known since beginning as the medical science of Ayurveda which is also present today. According to the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda for cure of an ailment of an individual’s body type, there is a rule of how to select an herb, how to pluck it & how to prepare it for to utilize as a medicine. Because a body which has life & according to the need of that body there is an ailment, due to the location of that body on the earth is totally influenced by the planets & stars.  

As long as that body has a relation with cosmic rays as body electricity which is available on the earth by the shooting down from the planets till then only a body functions. When the connectivity of the body electricity with earth's magnetic forces break then the body becomes life less. In the same manner it has a complete planetary influence on the plants too. As long as a plant is green it has life but when it dries up and becomes yellowish it loses all functions of life. In the ancient times the sages, saints, hermits & Acharyas laid stress on herbal plants for the preparation of medicines which is found in forests after finding the similarity of planetary effect on human beings and plants. Plants which has life and to cure an ailment in an individual for which medicine is prepared the astrological fundamental rules is applied for inviting a herb, plucking it and preparation of the medicine which proves that astrology is also a chain of Ayurveda.  

The relation of Ayurveda on one side is to determine the ailment of a patient and to cure the patient's ailment use the proper medicine besides this the medicines given to the patient to determine the proper recognition of the herbal plants and methodically prepare correct medicine. The knowledge of astrology as well as Ayurveda is essential for the preparation of the Ayurvedic medicines. Without its knowledge no proper medicine can be prepared. As long as an Ayurvedacharya does not have a proper knowledge of astrology his knowledge remains incomplete. For this same reason it was essential for an Ayurvedacharya to have proper knowledge of astrology in the ancient times which is not in practice at present. Today in the Ayurvedic medical colleges those students who are going to become Ayurvedacharya have a lack of astrological knowledge due to non-availability of astrological Gurus. The similarity of Ayurveda & Astrology in ancient scriptures on the same lines on which your attention is solicited. 

The ancient scripture of Ayurveda known as CHARAK SAMHITA' s chapter-1 titled "" The Doctor & Medicine"" (AUSHDHI & CHIKITSAK) Shloka 122, 123, 124, 125,126, 127, 128, 130, 131, & 135 it has been made clear which is as follows:-  

Na namgyanmatren roopgyanen va puna,

Aushadhi param praptim kashidaditumahrti (122) 

Explanation: By merely knowing the name and identity of herbal medicines no one should use it as medicine.  

To have a complete knowledge we should also know its characters and their utility.

Yogvitvapyarupgyanstansa tatvaviduchyate,

Kim punryo vijaniyadaushdhi sarvatha bhishak (123)

Explanation: Those persons who do not know the identity of herbal medicines but only use it on the patient he is said to know the medicine on the surface. Such men / women who know the identity of herbal medicines and how to use them he/she actually is the real practitioner.

 Yogmasam tu yo vidhyadeshkalopaditam,

Purusham vikashya sa gyenyo bhishgutam (124)

Explanation: Those Vaidyas who diagnose every patient according to the time period and weather of a country and use herbal medicines are called best Vaidyacharyas / Ayurvedic Physicians. 

Yatha visham yatha shastra! yathagnirshniryatha,

Tathoshadamvigyantamritam yatha (125)

Explanation: The medicine whose effect is not known is as fatal as poison, weapon, fire and weapon of Lord Indra (Vajra) which kills a mankind. On the contrary the medicine whose effect is well known serves as nectar to life.  

 Aushadham hayanbhgyatam namrupgunestribhi,

Vigyatam chapi duryakatmantharyopdhyate (126)

Explanation: The medicine whose name, shape, characteristic and effects are not known or if known but the utility of which is not clear then it becomes meaningless. Thus not only should we know the name, shape and the characteristic of the medicine but also the proper method of its utility.  

 Yogadapi visham tikshnamukatambheshjam bhavet,

Bheshajam chapi duryukta tikshna sampadhyte visham (127)

 Tasmatra bhisjam yuktam yuktibhayen bhesjam,

Dhimta kichidadeyam jivitarogyakadikshana (128)

Explanation: Even venomous poison when administered properly as medicine becomes the best of medicines but when the best medicine is used improperly it becomes poison. Thus it is important for those who love life and good health not to take medicines from such Vaidyas / Ayurvedic Physicians who are not up to the mark in their medical profession.

Therefore these explanations make it clear that it is necessary for a Vaidya to know the astrological and Ayurvedic aspect of herbs and the exact time and date of particular star day for plucking the herbs so that after preparing its medicine good results can be seen on the patient. 

 Kuryanipatito murghani sashesham vasvasani,

Yo bheshjamvigyan pragyamani prayachati (130)

 Tyaktadharmshya papsya mrityubhutsya durmate,

Naro narkapati syaktasya sambhashnadapi (131)

Explanation: Talking to those Vaidyas who show themselves to be very wise and give medicines to bed ridden patients without understanding their ailments is also a sin fit for hell. The fear of the terror of hell has been indicated by the Acharya and he asks the common man to boycott such type of Vaidyas through his aforesaid explanation.

Tadev yuktam Bheshajayam yadarogyay kalpate,

Sa chev bhisjam shrestho rogebhyo ya pramochyet (135)

Explanation: Only that medicine is the best through which complete cure of an ailment is possible and only that person is the best among Vaidyas who can rid the patients of their ailments.

Samyakprayogam sarvesham sidhirakhyati karmnam,

Sidhirakhyati sarvesch guneyurktam bhishaktamam

Explanation: The proper use of medicine leads to its success in curing and proper deeds put in practice shows the skill of the Vaidya in his prescription of the medicine.

Regarding herbal medicine it has been mentioned in the Shloka 1,2,3,4, & 5 of sukta-97 of Rig Veda.

Ya aushdhi poorva jata devebhyastiyugam pura,

Mane nu bakshnamaham shatam dhamani sapta ch (1)

Explanation: Those medicines which are more ancient than the mankind race and are produced in the seasons of spring, monsoons & winters - its 107 names & its production in 107 places and its use in a human body in 107 parts.

 Shatam vom amb dhamani shatramutam vo ruham,

Adh shatktvo yumiam me agadam krit (2)

Explanation: There are innumerable names and uses of these medicines. They have innumerable functions and effects. They cure the patients.

 Aushdhi prati modadhvam puspavati prasoovari,

Ashravaive sajitavarivirudha paryishnava (3)

Explanation: Those medicines which are flowery, have fruits, like horses are victorious over ailments, curing the patients and having wines are effective on the patients.

 Aushdhiriti maratastbdho devirupam bruve,

Saneyam ga vas aatmanam tav purush (4)

Explanation: Medicines are like a mother having different characteristics. I, as a Vaidya, preach its effects.

Oh man! I provide herbal medicines for the cure of organs, nerves, blood and heart ailments.

Ashravatthe vom nishdanam parne vom vastishkrita,

Gobhaj itkalasath yatsanvath purusham (5)

Explanation: These medicines and their medicinal base is in the air, clouds, electricity and they exist on the leaves.

These medicines use the soil, water and sun rays due to which it is used on the human body.

 As the satellite planet Moon completes the orbit of earth within 27 days from the north to south & again south to north due to which the dark day the Amavasya & the full moon day the Poornamasi is visible. In fact the transitory movement of the satellite planet Moon of the earth's orbit transits on 27 stars by which the earth's entire atmosphere, all living creatures and botanical plants are affected. As the Moon is a satellite of the earth, it plays the main role in affecting the nature which can be chiefly noticed on the days of Amavasya (dark day) and Poornmasi (full moon day).

On the dark day Amavasya nature is absolutely calm but on a full Moon's day the sea experiences tidal waves and storms along which it leaves an effect on the entire living creatures including the botanical plants and its effects can be seen on different star days differently. The herb by which an ailment is cured is also a botanical plant which has life and similar functions take place in its body just as a human body.

The ancient sages, hermits and Acharya has set a particular star days and time on which to pluck the herbs taking in to consideration the planetary and stars effects on human beings as well as on plants which is clear through the below given Shloka.    

Oum swamarnye ch ekante prbhate mantram yuktita

Sangrahyam aushdham sidham nochet bhavti kashtvat.

Explanation: In the morning at the herb growing place at a solitary point one should Jaap (chanting) the concerning mantra related to herbs and pluck it for medicinal purpose. Without Jaap (chanting) of Mantra related to concerning herbs plucking it would be of no consequence or equivalent to plain wood.

This Shloka / Mantra makes it obvious that there is a fundamental rule to pluck an herbal plant without which it remains a plain wood and has no medicinal value. These ancient fundamental rules of Ayurveda related to agricultural aspect, reaping it and its commercialization is not being observed by any one neither is it being seen anywhere which is having its ill effect on the common man and patients. It’s being commercialized in a big way all over the globe but by not following the fundamental rules its medical value is almost nil due to which the common man is losing faith in this ancient medical science of Ayurveda. This has led to the development of other systems of medicine and Ayurveda has been left lagging far behind.

This Ayurvedic science born out of Vedas has been gifted to us by the ancient sages, hermits, Acharyas and Gurus. As the Ayurvedic medicines used astrologically in the ancient times was the outcome of mantras on particular planetary star days from the dense forests which had a miraculous effect on the patients but today the preparation of medicines for cure without the astrological aspect which is got from the forests is like a plain wood which has no effect on the patients due to which the Ayurveda born out of Vedas is constantly losing its identity in this country which is the result of little knowledge of the proper preparation of the medicines .

In the below given Shloka an inviting mantra related to herbal plants got from the forests for preparation of medicines has been mentioned. This can be obtained from the forests only after Jaap (chanting) of this Mantra in which a rule has been followed and because of life existing in the concerning herbal plants emphasis has been given to the cure of an ailment.

Oum namestey amrit sambhave rasviryam vivardhini

Balmayushyam ch me dehi papan me jahi duratah.

Yen Tvam khante brahma yevatvam bhrigu tenadaham

khanishyami mantram puten panina.

Om atapte te ma triyate rasviryo anyatha bhavet.

Atrev tistha kalyani.

Mam karya karye bhav karye bhute sidhe tat swarge gamishyasi.

Oum hrim chandedum phat swaha.

Explanation: Oh! Herbs born out of nectar greetings to you. Give me life and strength; rid me of my sins, the manner in which Lord Brahmaji & Bhriguji dug you in the same way I will pull you out with the help of these mantras and holy hands. Those who do not protect you from the heat of the Sun will lose their rasvirya.

Oh! Life giving herbs stay here and go to heaven only after my work is finished.   

While revolving the satellite planet Moon on the earth's orbit around twenty seven constellations affects the nature of the earth differently on different star days. While the satellite planet Moon enters the pushya star on a Sunday then a strong combination of ravi-pushya is formed. On this day all the botanical plants found on the earth is affected by the stars and planetary cosmic rays. On this day the concerning herbs when invited, plucked and prepared for the Ayurvedic medicine, helps most effectively in curing the ailments. Without the uses of these fundamental rules of Ayurvedic scriptures the herbal medicines which are prepared are useless. Due to which the old medical science of India known as Ayurveda has been replaced by the other medical sciences. 

The below given Shloka shows its factual position:

Pushyakaryam utpatyante aushdh sarva

All kinds of herbs are plucked on a Sunday under the pushya star.  

The transitory movement of satellite planet Moon in 12th zodiacal signs Aries to Pisces in 27 stars in

which the measurement of one star is 13 degree 20 minutes are in four steps. The earth is a very big part of land which is divided in two longitudes known as western and eastern longitudes in which there are various northern and southern latitudes. According to the geographical position of the earth the planetary effects are different on different parts of the earth. To diagnose an individual we see the particular place of the earth's latitude and longitude where the exact transitory position of the Moon in star is different from the other places' of the earth's latitudes and longitudes. Before the preparation of the Ayurvedic medicines the planetary effects on the herbs are diagnosed astrologically so that proper and effective medicines can be prepared.  

According to the below given Shloka of the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda known as RASRAJ MAHODADHI it shows the star pushya on Sunday, the star Rohini on Friday or the Asthmi of Krishna paksha and on Hastha star days the concerning herbs is invited and plucked for medicines.  

The Shloka of the ancient scripture Rasraj Mahodadhi is given below: 

Pushya hoy aditya ko, jo lije yeh mool,

Shukrvar ki rohini, gahan hoy anukul

Krishnapaksha ki asthmi, hastha nakshtra jo hoy

Ardh ratri ko jay ke, man ki shanka khoya.

Dhoop deep de laykar, dhare doodh me dhoye

Jo kahoo na nari ke vishdhar kate hoy. 

Besides this in the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda known as Rasraj Mahodadhi it has been put down that the transitory movement of the satellite planet Moon in 27 stars which completes in 27 days is related to the 27 trees. It has also been stated that those men and women who are born on a particular star day should not pluck or cut for the purpose of medicine that tree related to the star of the person's birth.  

According to the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda Rasraj Mahodadhi the star tree is given below:- 

1. Ashwani star's owner planet is Ketu whose tree is Kuchila.

2. Bharni star's owner planet is Venus whose tree is Aamla.

3. Kritica star's owner planet is Sun whose tree is Gooler.

4. Rohini star's owner planet is Moon whose tree is Jaamun.

5. Mrigsira star's owner planet is Mars whose tree is Kher.

6. Audra star's owner planet is Rahu whose tree is Agar.

7. Punarvasu star's owner planet is Jupiter whose tree is Baans.

8. Pushya star's owner planet is Saturn whose tree is Pipal.

9. Ashlesha star's owner planet is Mercury whose tree is Chameli.

10. Magha star's owner planet is Ketu whose tree is Bad.

11. Poorva phalguni star's owner planet is Venus whose tree is Dhak.

12. Uttaraphalguni star's owner planet is Sun whose tree is Pilkhan.

13. Hastha star's owner planet is Moon whose tree is Jai.

14. Chitra star's owner planet is Mars whose tree is Belpatra.

15. Swati star's owner planet is Rahu whose tree is Arjun.

16. Vishakha star's owner planet is Jupiter whose tree is Babool.

17. Anuradha star's owner planet is Saturn whose tree is Nagkeshar.

18. Jyestha star's owner planet is Mercury whose tree is Shambhal.

19. Moola star's owner planet is Ketu whose tree is Ralvriksh.

20. Poorvashada star's owner planet is Venus whose tree is Bet.

21. Uttarashada star's owner planet is Sun whose tree is Panas.

22. Shravan star's owner planet is Moon whose tree is Aak.

23. Dhanistha star's owner planet is Mars whose tree is jathi.

24. Shatbhisha star's owner planet is Rahu whose tree is kadamb.

25. Poorvabhadrapada star's owner planet is Jupiter whose tree is Aam.

26. Uttarabhadrapada star's owner planet is Saturn whose tree is Neem.

27. Revti star's owner planet is Mercury whose tree is Mahuwa. 

The transitory movement of the satellite planet Moon on 27 stars, the effects of the planets and the stars through cosmic rays on the earth can be seen in the Amavasya (dark day) and the Poornmasi(full Moon day). The 9 planets known as the Sun, the Moon, the Mars, the Mercury, the Jupiter, the Venus, the Saturn, the Rahu and the Ketu represent these 27 stars and each planet represents three stars. According to the astrological point of view the concerning men/women should look after the concerning tree which is related to his/her birth star and not use it as medicine.  

It is obvious by these quoted examples of ancient scriptures that the herbs used in the preparation of Ayurvedic medicine, the astrological knowledge are essential. For the same reason in the ancient time most of the practitioners had knowledge of both Astrology as well as Ayurveda which is not in practice today. The medical college of Ayurveda, Ayurvedacharya and the men/women related to Ayurveda and the astrologers due to being divided Ayurveda is gradually losing its identity. According to the ancient scriptures if both Astrology and Ayurveda are brought on one platform and the fundamental principles of astrological science is applied in herbal agriculture, its production, collection and the preparation of herbal medicines then the ancient medical science of Ayurveda which is the Indian heritage will have a unique significance and once again its benefits can be available to the common man.  

The effects of the planets on herbal medicines has been mentioned in the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda known as Charak Samhita, Sushrut, Vagbhatt, Vrihatrayi, Nighantu etc to the modern scriptures . Besides this the other related scriptures known as Vedas, Upnishad, Brahmin granth, Aarynak shabdkosh, Santvagya, Lokvangya, Mahakavya, Lokkavya, Rudhiparampra, Kahavaten etc also have a significant contribution. In all these scriptures a close relation between Astrology and Ayurveda has been mentioned. The other related scriptures known as Jyotish, Kamsutra, Vrihatsamhita, Anangrang, Samrangan, Sutradhar, Sthapatya shastra, Vrishiki, Pashu Ayurveda,

Vriksharuveda etc also have their contribution in Ayurveda. The different learned astrologers have expressed their views in this regard differently. The old astrological scripture of Vrihatsamhita which was written by Acharya Varahmihir in the 5th century also mentioned about the relation between Astrology and Ayurveda and how it is useful to the common man medically.  

The most important part in the preparation of medicine is that those botanical plants with which medicines are prepared they should be tested, because the earth is a big part of land which is divided in two parts i.e. eastern and western longitudes which even the Sun cannot lighten completely at the same time, for this reason the patient's particular place of residence and its medicines is best for his cure. In nature water, air, plants, birds, animals and mankind live together among their own kind. Plants everywhere are influenced by nature like it effects everything else. As hot herbal medicines in hot places of the earth are very strong than they are in the cold places. In the same manner cold medicine in the cold places of the earth are colder than they are in the hot places. One kind of herbs related to herbal medicine which is found in the Himalayan belt and its adjourning mountains affects its patients differently in the plain areas of land. According to the geographical latitudinal and longitudinal position of the earth the medicines related to particular place is entirely different from each other. Only through the knowledge of astrology the medicine used can be effective in curing a patient. Ayurvedic medicines are effective only when it is in accordance to the Astrological science

There are some research institute is also carrying out research in a branch of astrological science known as Astro medical science. The ailments found in a patient, nature of ailment and its possibility of being curable or incurable there have been various points in this regard where this research institute has been successful in which if a patient is suffering from an incurable ailment it does not mean that it remains incurable in every part of the earth's latitude and longitude. In Astro medical science after diagnosing it is found out to which latitude and longitude that particular incurable ailment remains incurable and from where its incurability ends. Any ailment in a body exists in that body according to its physical demand and its location on the earth. In Astro diagnosis a patient’s curability or incurability is seen and which planet is responsible for it. As long as the body recovery does not take place in accordance to the latitude and longitude of the earth till then no medication is of any use to the patient. According to astrological diagnosis they are made aware that from what part of the earth's latitude and longitude their incurable ailments begins to cure and what treatment should be taken by them. Taking in to consideration the importance of Astrological science in Ayurveda, in the interest of the patients, public, society and the nation at large this astrological science should be included in the preparation of herbal medicines to leave a stamp of Ayurvedic science on the common men and women. When the herbs are plucked in accordance to the Astrological aspect then that medicine which is prepared is fully effective on any ailment.

It's high time to go back to the precious teachings of those rishis, advanced scientists I would say, for better health on physical, emotional n mental level n much more than our logic mind can grasp.
