Tailor for the position: Customize your CV for each job or opportunity you apply for. Highlight the skills and experiences most relevant to the specific position.

Clear and Concise Format: Keep the CV to 1-2 pages, especially if you're early in your career.

  • Use clear headings and bullet points for easy readability.
  • Choose a professional font and maintain a consistent format throughout.

Contact Information:

  • Include your full name, phone number, email address, and LinkedIn profile (if applicable).
  • Exclude unnecessary personal details like your marital status or birth date.

Professional Summary/ Objective:

  • Write a brief statement summarizing your career goals and what you bring to the table.
  • Tailor this section to align with the specific job you're applying for.

Work experience:

  • List your work experiences in reverse chronological order (most recent first).
  • Include your job title, company name, location, and dates of employment.
  • Use bullet points to detail your responsibilities and accomplishments, focusing on quantifiable achievements.

Education:

  • Mention your educational institutions, degrees obtained, and graduation dates.
  • Include any honours, awards, or relevant coursework.

Skills:

  • Highlight both technical and soft skills relevant to the job.
  • Group skills by categories such as "Technical Skills" and "Interpersonal Skills."

Achievements and Accomplishments:

  • Include any significant achievements, awards, publications, or projects.
  • Quantify your accomplishments whenever possible (e.g., "increased sales by 20%," "led a team of 10 members").

Keywords:

  • Incorporate industry-specific keywords from the job description to pass through automated applicant tracking systems (ATS).

Volunteer Work and extra-Curricular activities:

  • Include relevant volunteer work or activities that demonstrate skills or qualities valued in the job.

Professional development:

  • Mention any relevant certifications, workshops, or training you've completed.

Proofreading and Editing:

  • Review your CV for spelling, grammar, and formatting errors.
  • Consider asking a friend or mentor to review it as well.

Quantify when possible:

  • Use numbers to quantify your achievements (e.g., "increased revenue by 25%").

Be Honest:

  • Always be truthful and accurate in your CV. Avoid exaggerating or providing false information.

Reverse Chronological order:

  • Structure your CV with your most recent and relevant experiences first.

Use action verbs:

  • Start each bullet point with a strong action verb to describe your responsibilities and accomplishments.

Update regularly:

Keep your CV updated with new experiences, skills, and accomplishments, even if you're not actively job hunting.
