Vasant Panchami
With the onset of Vasant Panchami, the winter sets in;
The spring gets in;
Mustard begins to bloom in the field;
And, the oldsters and youngsters ting, ring and sing.
Day is yellowish;
Devotees become lovish;
They worship Goddess Saraswati with turban on head and vermillion on forehead;
And, pray to Her to enlighten their dark and stark life.
The festival is celebrated with pomp and honk;
The chariot is driven by tenacious and ferocious horses;
The devotees strew showers and flowers on the path that goes on and on;
And, they play bombardon to please and appease the Goddess.
The festival brings joys and rejoice;
It marks enlightenment, excitement and enjoyment;
Although it is local, it is focal;
So, make it as bright as nothing outright.
